Wes Clark on Hillary
For those who want to know why someone whom many of you respect would
support her:
http://www.bluehampshire.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=2218

I've just been watching him on CSPAN2, and he enumerated why he thinks
she's the best candidate, so I searched for a statement that you can read.

I am not a big fan of hers but Clark makes some good points

1. I would prefer that our next president restore America's reputation with Americans first!

4. That's short-sighted thinking.
The way the world views us has a big effect on our daily lives. For example, the US dollar is dropping faster than an acme safe. We can't afford to once again elect the person we want to have a beer with (or a cup of tea with). A president who can restore our standing in the world will lift us all up.

5. It may make you sad
because you're supporting John Edwards. It certainly doesn't make me sad because I'm satisfied that Clinton would do a better job as president than your guy.

9. Because you have respect for Clark?
And are saddened that he is jumping on the Clinton train.

Me too. But, hey, she has the money and power and can strong arm the endorsements.

Oh, well.

10. There's no way that Clinton could have strong-armed
Wes Clark. IMO he simply thinks that the issues that he's been fighting for will stand a better chance of success in a Clinton administration. That's what's behind most endorsements.

he doesn't owe a thing to either of them.

15. I cried when Clark conceded last year...
If I had known that he would become a shill for the DLC and Hillary, I wouldn't have cared so much.

16. Video
I believe you're probably talking about the CSPAN2 broadcast from the Miami Book Fair. Video of the Q & A session is online here: http://securingamerica.com/ccn/node/13870.

In case anyone wants to actually hear what he said instead of just taking potshots and Wes and/or Hillary, the question comes up about 11 minutes into the video...but the whole Q&A period is good.

As for Hillary, I don't quite know where I stand on her yet. I was never one of the 'haters' although her IWR vote really upset me. I know she'd not be my first choice, given a fantasy field....but those I want running are not so I've got to choose from who's running. In any event, unlike some other folks here, when people that I highly respect start endorsing her, rather than throwing those I've respected for years under the bus (Clark's been bought, RFK Jr's dad worked for Joe McCarthy, Mondale's just a big loser...and, worst of all, McGovern's nothing but a senile old man) I wonder if maybe I'm missing something about Hillary and shouldn't at least take a closer look and try to see what they see in her. But I know that's not the popular thing to do here at DU.
