1. Well, I'd imagine that a question about his association with
that McClurkin guy is what many here would want to ask him about. That, to my eye, seemed to be a big bump in the road for him amongst the progressive community.

Not sure what's the best way to phrase it though. Does he reject McClurkin's "Pray away the gay?" philosophy? Does he repudiate Mary, Mary's comparison of gays with murderers and prostitutes?

9. He's already rejected it
so why are you pretending like he hasn't.

I'd ask him whether he knows which campaign spews out the most lies about him.

10. He made one statement, before it became apparent that there weren't just
two homophobic acts at the venue, but at least three, and that there was a bit of 'preaching' going on by the Rev McClurkin.

If you recall, his comments PRECEDED the event. They didn't follow it.

It would be interesting to hear any remarks in amplification, perhaps an APOLOGY, once he realized exactly what he had been dealing with, after the fact.

Even if YOU don't happen to think so.

I'm not "pretending" anything. And I'm still an undecided voter, but I will tell you, that business, plus the pissy shirtiness of his so-called supporters who DARE to get annoyed by this "have it both ways" effort, makes me less and less enthused about the man every day. You don't help him with that bigass chip on your shoulder.

29. He has not apologized to GLBT people yet
he has just made excuses for allowing a person spew spiritual terrorism in his name. Saying he does not agree does not cut it. He needs to right that wrong.

28. No, he made a comment BEFORE the event about it.
Not after, when we found out that there were more than two homophobic acts on the stage.

AND that Donnie did a little "pray away the gay" preaching at the event.

You're the one being disingenuous. I am fully aware of what he said between the announcement of the controversial appearance by McClurkin and the event. But AT THAT EVENT, more shit went on, and he has not addressed that.

A little "Gee, I don't agree, but let's get down with the Homophobic Music" does not cut it.

3. What does he plan to do for disabled people who are not veterans?
Not ripping vets here, but I'd like to know more about how Senator Obama feels about Americans with disabilities generally.

19. Not a full plan, but here's his response to anniversary of the ADA
"On July 26, 1990 the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a law that aimed to ensure that Americans with disabilities have equal access to the American Dream, was signed into law. As a former civil rights lawyer, I know firsthand the importance of strong legal protections against discrimination and an abiding commitment to equal opportunity. As we celebrate the ADA's anniversary today, we must also re-commit ourselves to strengthening the law and enforcing it more vigorously and effectively.

"The ADA declared that people with disabilities are welcome throughout American society. The ADA assumed, rather than doubted, that people with disabilities can be productive workers contributing to our economy and the support of their families. Perhaps most important, the ADA was a formal acknowledgment that people with disabilities are American citizens with the same rights as other Americans: a right to belong, a right to participate fully in the American experience, and a right to have dignity and respect in the workplace and beyond.

"This right is not just something to celebrate today, it’s something we must work to uphold in the months to come. We must overcome the Supreme Court decisions that have weakened this right by making the ADA Restoration Act the law of the land – a law that will bring us closer to the ADA’s ideal of barring discrimination against anyone on the basis of disability."

23. Okay.

At least he's aware of the recent SCOTUS verdicts which basically...invalidated the ADA, in my layperson's opinion.

I've made a LOT of phone calls in campaign offices since '04 and the question of what the candidate is going to do/has done WRT non-veteran disabled people always comes up. So hopefully Obama will have some sort of a plan. Acknowledging the need to restore the ADA is a solid start.

5. I really like Obama (and Kucinich) but would like to know why he was not present for the vote
on the Kyl-Lieberman amendment. I know he was campaigning in NH at the time, but
how does he justify criticizing Hillary for her "No" vote (which I, too, criticize her for),
when he was not even there to vote at all?

20. Poppy farms in Afghanistan. Given
the ineffectiveness of the current eradication campaign (and that 93% of the world's heroin comes out of Afghanistan), would he support aerial spraying to destroy them, would he support subsidies to get farmers to grow other crops, would he support purchasing the opium directly from farmers and then using it for medicinal purposes, or does he believe that current efforts are adequate?

21. thanks for all the question everyone, i doubt i'll get to ask any of them but
i think most of the questions you posted would be excellent for any candidate to answer, too bad regular people don't write the debate questions.

24. Have fun, candidate events are great experiences, unfortunately
when Obama came to Norfolk, it wasn't a public event, he just came to pick up a wad of cash at a private fundraiser :(

From your comment, what a great idea to maybe start a series of threads asking a question...how would your candidate answer......?

sadly. Du'ers come up with many great questions that imo many people would want to hear the answers to.
