VIDEO: GOP candidates speak on gay Republicans and military ban

In a segment that surprised many viewers, an openly gay veteran addressed the CNN/YouTube Republican presidential candidates from the audience after they responded to his question on Don't Ask, Don't Tell. The two-hour televised debate was broadcast on CNN and included questions from over 5,000 submitted to the online video hosting site.

The six minute segment on gay issues began with CNN anchor and debate host Anderson Cooper introducing a video question from Brigadier Gen. Keith Kerr (Ret.):

Where the hell does he get the notion that it's okay to keep gays out of the military because those who enlist come from conservative families and expect conservative values???? The fact that the majority hold conservative values is debatable as best and this notion that because the majority that sign on the dotted line are homophobic does not mean we should cater to them. There was a time when those living in the south came from families that thought blacks didn't belong in schools...

2. I commend CNN for choosing those questions and for having the good General
in the audience.

I also commend Anderson Cooper for earnestly trying to get a clear, concise response out of Romney.
