Poll question: How off from mainsteam Democratic Politics DO you think DU is
Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 08:49 PM by Perky
By mainstram I mean somone who will vote for a Democrat in 7 out of ten statewide (Gov, Sen, state AG, Prez and VP (it is a state race by electoral college definition)) or a Democratic congresscritter in 7 out of ten races) and would self descrbe as a casual as opposed to active watcher of washington politcs).ANd the other three times votes for a republican on typical issues like trust and National defense or the dem has ethical question marks)

I am trying to get to a simple definition of nominal as opposed to dyed-in-the-wool Dem or rabid progressive. Not looking to quibble over nominality....just coming up with a scratchpad definition of nominal.

whew... ok now the question...

If the nominal dem by this definition is a three on a scale of one to ten where in your view is the majority of the folks on DU, IF ten is the uber liberal?

I am not asking where you are on the scale, I am asking where you think the majority of DU is.

I am guessing the average is about a seven.

There is no bad rating and I am not suggsesting there is any problem with a ten. Everyone is different, but where do you think the DU community is overall.

1. Do you mean the vocal Du'ers or all Du'ers?
I think the most vocal obvious are more liberal than the reading/lurking types

4. So we're supposed to imagine how many centrist lurkers there are?
Let me guess, you're not an uberliberal, but you think DU is too liberal, so you want to puff up "your people's" numbers in this totally random and meaningless poll? Pathetic, but hilarious! Do the Germans have a word for that?

6. I think you read alot into that post
I thought it was actaully an interesting question rather than trying to do what you suggest.

SO here is the question I have...

Those that are voting 9 or 10... Are they 9 or 10ers themseves.. or 3-4-5s who look at their friends in the real world as nominals and DUere as that much more removed from mainstream that the whole lotof us deserves a 9 or 10?

5. I won't tell you what I answered, but I will say this...
Democrats need to be very careful about how much further to the left they go. Otherwise they will stop getting the Ind's to jump over. I just changed recently, and some of the opinions on this board guarantee that after this election, I will go back to the center. I am still slightly left of center, but some of the progressive ideology I see on here, is too much for me. I'm all for change, but not at the expense of our nations traditions, or forcing people to accept progressive ideology in our everyday lives.

We all know the republicans went way too far to the right, and just look at how much trouble they are in...

9. You're absolutely right. But right now, this country needs to move at least left of center
We need to strengthen labor, fix the deficit, restore the dollar, end the war and a whole host of other things that are traditionally to the left of center.

I don't think you need to worry about us going too far left for a while.

11. I totally agree with you...
and that is why *I* think Biden is the most logical choice. I hope it doesn't go to far to the left until I am dead and gone, LOL...

12. I always thought I was "out there" as a liberal
until I found DU and there are people here who are so far out to the left that I don't think they know that any other position exists. And THAT can be a big problem when you're trying to win center votes.

13. That's exactly what I'm saying...
It was a difficult thing for me to do, but I did it, and then found out that my vote for Biden in Florida won't matter anyway....I wished I would have done some research on the sitch before I reregistered. But, I can always go back...

16. I prefer to think of your poll in terms of years, though your numbers are off...
DUers, on average, are about 10 years ahead of Democrats, in general, as far as social and political beliefs and development is concerned, and at least 20 to 30 years ahead of the curve with the typical American.

17. You mean, counting the freaks that come out during primary season?
the whole tenor of the board goes wild whenever a primary is afoot. I don't know whether they are operatives, or what.
