AP: Clinton Calm in Hostage Crisis

Analysis: Clinton Calm in Hostage Crisis
By GLEN JOHNSON – 3 hours ago

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — When the hostages had been released and their alleged captor arrested, a regal-looking Hillary Rodham Clinton strolled out of her Washington home, the picture of calm in the face of crisis.

The image, broadcast just as the network news began, conveyed the message a thousand town hall meetings and campaign commercials strive for — namely, that the Democratic presidential contender can face disorder in a most orderly manner.

"I am very grateful that this difficult day has ended so well," she declared as she stood alone at the microphone.

Little more than three hours later, just in time for the 11 p.m. local news, Clinton reaffirmed that perspective. In New Hampshire, she embraced her staffers and their families, and lauded the law enforcement officials who brought a siege at her local campaign headquarters to a peaceful conclusion.

It was a vintage example of a candidate taking a negative and turning it into a positive. And coming just six weeks before the presidential voting begins, the timing could hardly have been more beneficial to someone hoping to stave off a loss in the Iowa caucuses and secure a win in the New Hampshire primary.

Aides said Clinton was home Friday afternoon, getting ready to deliver a partisan speech in Virginia to the Democratic National Committee, when she was told three workers in her Rochester, N.H., headquarters had been taken hostage by a man claiming to have a bomb.

2. That was my first reaction as well
"regal looking"?!?!? But then, in all fairness, she looks MUCH better than queen Elizabeth ever did :-).

6. Great minds think alike, obviously.
Look at the timing of our comments. And of course it's pro-Clinton MSM spin.

What else are they going to say -- what we're saying? That would require them to tell the truth, right?

8. that was my other thought besides her regalness... she wasn't there,
so how would she be flustered.. I uderstand, they are trying to say that in a situation of national duress, she would come out speak, sound good... but not have done a damn thing other than talk to the people.

10. It's as credible as when the AP breathlessly praised Bush's "presidential" speech after 9/11

As if he was somehow a hero by association for reading a speech given to him by his handlers. Isn't that what's happening with Clinton now?
Never fear, Iowans are too savvy to fall for glossy scripted photo-ops by Bush II or the wannabee Clinton II.

11. Well, New Hampshire has been rather republican in nature.. they love
their land... Land issues are very big up there... None of my family would live anywhere with a homeowner's association attatched to it... Also, they are for the least amount of regulation.. look at their tax structure.. however, rosy times are of the past, and many are now feeling the stress of lack of jobs and not enough social programs to keep up with the increases in living. Farming and other agri-related businesses are just not doing the trick... Clinton is the most Republican sounding candidate... They don't trust Rudy.. he's a charlott selling snake-oil... New Hampshire has always befuddled my VT state.. strange how different the people are considering the proximity and the same struggles.

9. Would You Have Liked It Better Is She Was Taken Hostage?
I assure you, with her phalanx of Uzi toting Secret Service agents, Mr. Eisenberg would have been in bits before he got within six feet of her...

12. I think people are commenting on the article and how it was written, not
that they wished Senator Clinton any harm. Critical and analytical thinking skills are required in this exercise. This is why many people are on this board... they can look beyond the box, peak past the curtains, and see b.s. that the media puts out for exactly that b.s., and they can even pick out the sentences and wording that the author or editor has placed in the article that are used to present an image of a heroic person of good quality.

14. See post #12
glowing said it better than I could.

Besides, I think today's Secret Service agents carry MP5s instead of Uzis. Not that there's anything wrong with Uzis, but MP5s are lighter and more configurable.

4. Oh, please, it's not as if she was a hostage. She just needed to prep for another photo-op.
And milking it for all it's worth in order to distract from her falling poll numbers and Bill's lies about his anti-Iraq war stance.

When is she and Bill going to get back to attacking Obama again? Because polls show their negative campaigning sure is working.

5. Just like 9/11 was for Bush
The media went on and on about him with the bullhorn.

9/11 was the best thing that ever happened for Bush.

7. Thankfully, she was nowhere near the hostage situation. Maybe that's why she was calm?
More pro-Hillary "analysis" from our friends at the AP.

13. Um, isn't that the expectation?
What, did they expect her to go into hysterics?
