Kennedy to Endorse Obama

Exclusive! The Vortex has learned from Obama campaign insiders that Senator Ted Kennedy will endorse the junior Senator from Illinois as early as Sunday. Kennedy has never endorsed a candidate that lost the Iowa Caucus

7. That's really low and uncalled for.
It's the second time I've seen a reference to Chappaquiddick here at DU.Grow up.

6. I would not be too keen to have the Honorable Ted Kennedy endorse me.
Ted Kennedy is the definition of 'Old School Democrat Politics'.

Obama is presenting himself as a 'New Democrat'.

16. He has been conducting winning campaigns as a Democrat since 1962
Kennedy hits the big gatherings to press the flesh, meet people in person, eat the food, drink the drinks and address the group at the end.

To get to the voters today, Obama the candidate needs to hit the air waves, go on the Sunday talk shows, pose for YouTube and get some netroots. That's a whole 'nuther mind set from people born in 1932.

14. Actually, for years now it's been Kennedy Dems vs Clinton Dems in DC and I think
Obama would rather side with the Kennedy Dems at this point.

Besides - Obama's 'new' politics is about how we SPEAK to each other, not about the triangulating and leaning right politics of Clintonites.

17. That's funny because RFK jr. just formally endorsed Hillary
Meanwhile, a few of the other Kennedys and former JFK speechwriter Ted Sorenson are in Obama's camp.

Maybe they're just covering both bases so they're on the "winning team" no matter who wins the nomination.

20. Probably - shame about RFK Jr, though. He had to know McAuliffe allowed the RNC
the room to commit all that election fraud for 2002 and 2004, even though the hearings on 2000's theft made it quite clear how the RNC was operating. McAuliffe did nothing to counter the RNC who gained control of the entire election process in too many crucial states at the level where the votes are allowed, cast, and counted.

19. Not to mention that if Obama gets many endorsements
from senior Democrats who have gravitas - such as Kennedy, Gore, Kerry, and Hart - to name just 4, it counters the biggest concern people have - that he is not ready or experienced enough. Kennedy, in particular, could make the point of his brother's age and experience.

18. It would surprise me if Kennedy endorsed anyone.
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 10:00 AM by robcon
It usually doesn't pay for sitting politicians to make an enemy of a president (fairly likely to be Clinton) for no reason. He'll wait until the primaries indicate a win before an endorsement, IMO.

Most of the endorsements for Clinton or Obama are favorite son/daughter endorsements (NYers for Clinton or ILers for Obama) or from non-politicians.
