Both students and faculty voted for president in the Mock Election sponsored by the Columbia College Civic Engagement Initiative on November 13. To give Columbia College students and faculty “hands on” voter training, the elections were set up like an actual election.
All students were allowed to vote from 7 a.m.-7.p.m. The election featured double primaries; students and faculty could choose to vote on a Democratic or a Republican ticket.
Clinton received 52 percent of the student vote and 59 percent of faculty vote for the Democratic Party ticket. Helena Brigham, 21, an English major with an emphasis in literary studies at Columbia College, thinks she knows why Clinton is the Columbia College choice:
“I think because we are a private women’s college, a lot of students are going to sympathize with Sen. Clinton. However, one needs to give her platform credit as well. I think she has the strongest campaign this year.”(11,000 students)
Students chose Romney as the Republican favorite, with 30 percent of the vote.
