Obama camp says Clinton's acts from 'desperation'

Obama camp says Clinton's acts from 'desperation'

by Jill Zuckman

On the same day that Sen. Hillary Clinton discovered that she had completely lost her lead in New Hampshire, one of her chief supporters questioned whether Sen. Barack Obama could win a general election because of his past marijuana and cocaine use.

The questions raised by Bill Shaheen, Clinton's New Hampshire co-chair, substantially upped the ante in the ongoing back-and-forth between the two campaigns over which candidate is less electable in a general election.

Shaheen told The Washington Post that Republicans would jump on Obama's "drug use" and said it would lead to more questions. "It'll be, 'When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?'" Shaheen said. "There are so many openings for Republican dirty tricks. It's hard to overcome."

Obama's campaign manager descried the salvo as borne of desperation.

"Hillary Clinton said attacking other Democrats is the 'fun part' of this campaign, and now she's moved from Barack Obama's kindergarten years to his teenage years in an increasingly desperate effort to slow her slide in the polls," said David Plouffe.

"Senator Clinton's campaign is recycling old news that Barack Obama has been candid about in a book he wrote years ago, and he's talked about the lessons he's learned from these mistakes with young people all across the country," Plouffe said. "He plans on winning this campaign by focusing on the issues that actually matter to the American people."

2. Yet another attack on Hillary
framed as a cry of victimization.

Shaheen's comment was a legitimate one. It's not an "attack"

Everytime someone makes a truthful comment about Obama --OMG --it's an attack!!!!!!

Obama talking about his former drug use DOES open him up for attack, and it does hurt his electability.

3. You can keep repeating this mantra...
but it doesn't make the attack anymore pathetic or desperate.

Man, it's like a broken record with her Cult of Perpetual Victimhood.

10. Didn't say she was a victim
I said Obama claims HE's a victim anytime someone comments about him.

What part of this don't you get?

Obama said he used drugs.

Shaheen said that opens him up for attack from the GOP.

Is Shaheen wrong?

Nope.

9. What kind of question is that?
Do I need to run my opinions through the Obama thought police?

Hell yes that's how I see it.

If you can't handle it, tough.

11. If Shaheen's comments were legitimate, why did Clinton condemn them?

Hillary Camp: We Do Not Condone Drug Comment In Any Way
By Greg Sargent - December 12, 2007, 6:05PM

The Hillary campaign is condemning remarks made by New Hampshire co-chair Billy Shaheen, who said earlier today in an interview that Barack Obama's past drug use could be used against him by the GOP, thus calling his electability into question.

The Obama campaign directly blamed Hillary for the remarks this afternoon, saying that it was born of a "desperate effort to slow her slide in the polls."

Now Clinton spokesman Phil Singer has sent us this statement:

Senator Clinton is out every day talking about the issues that matter to the American people. These comments were not authorized or condoned by the campaign in any way.

Well, then we're all set. :D And no, it wasn't strange, your post implied to me you weren't aware of what her campaign came back with. My apologies.

6. Obama can't seem to take the heat--perhaps he needs to get out of the kitchen
"Recycling old news," he claims. As if it should be off limits. But wait, he just mentioned it in a recent speech.

So, he can recycle it when it benefits him, but it is off limits to question it? Criminal law violations, drug use. And it is off limits?

And, the quesiton is, is it old news? How much of what he did do we know?

23. Twisting Hillary's words once again.
The "fun" comment from Hillary was her being sarcastic. She can hardly be having fun having her words, deeds, hairdo and clothing dissected and smashed into something unrecognizable.

Obama is a virtual unknown in the world of politics. He's not passed the test of time or come into maturity as a political candidate. If he can't take the heat---you know the rest.

Hillary's not mean but you'd never know it the way the word is bandied about. Obama better get used to being scrutinized, especially after admitting his drug use. It's going to become a bigger issue if he wins the nomination because you can be sure the "other side" will use it against him along with anything they can dig up.

Obama is fair game so he'd better grow up and learn to take his lumps. Hillary has taken more than her share of them and for a much longer period of time.

but the Obama camp and the media chose to misinterpret the intent of her words to match their own narrative.
