Dan Abrams - and MSNBC deserve new praise
When Keith Olberman started to rock the boat sloshing ice water on the misdeeds of this disastrous administration we flocked to write and give him the support he richly deserved. He was the first, and so far the only one, to blaze a new reliable trail of courage in the media which had all but rolled over to play inanely dead.

Mr. Abrams may have recognized that imitation of a winner is a ticket worth pursuing, but I don't care about his motives. I care about his doing it.
I don't see a flocking by us to support him the way we did Keith and I think we might consider it. He is exposing and shining a light on specifics that have been ignored, and he is digging up and re-visiting unlawful behavior that has been shoveled under as new outrages keep surfacing. Go Dan!
We owe it all to Imus who lost his morning show and then got replaced by Scarborough whose night slot was taken over by Abrams. I like very much that Imus' racist slur brought about a widening of MSNBC's dialogue about the failure of Bush and Co.

Let's support Dan, and give him some of what made Keith all of a sudden earn 4 Million dollars.
Truth pays in the end.

2. And hail Donahue, who set up the audience for Keith.
We've made it, folks!

4. Tonight, Abrams said he approved or torture sometimes. ...
No way he compares to Donahue or Olbermann. He's had his own show before and it failed.

5. I'm in agreement - he's not a trailblazer - he is a person who knows butter on the side of success
what matters is the word being out there loud and ongoing while it is supported by people of substance. It's high time and what I hope for is that the courage spreads. Abrams will breed someone else to not worry about being in small airplanes. Olberman blazed a trail, the others follow with less baggage when it comes to courage. They all count. We don't yet have a hundred monkeys. We need to support and praise them all to turn them into an unstoppable avalanche.

8. Actually Dan Abram's show didn't fail. He became the head
of MSNBC, Keith's boss. I don't know if his position has changed, but I've heard Keith refer to him as his boss.

I think Abrams had a lot to do with unleashing Keith on Countdown and giving him more freedom to express his opinions.

Meanwhile, MSNBC is looking for a new show, possibly to replace Tucker (wishful thinking on my part) or maybe take over Abram's slot.

9. If his show was all that successful, why would they have taken him off
the air for so long? He must be a better administrator than on air personality.

14. Evidently he is
though I was surprised to see him back on the air as it would mean he was wearing two hats and possibly spreading himself a bit thin. I thought at the time it might be temporary because of Imus and the need to fill his morning timeslot. I'm assuming that Joe's ratings in the evening weren't all that great, so they moved him to the morning, leaving the evening open for a more progressive candidate to follow Keith.

20. Why get rid of their #1 host -- Phil Donahue --- they are willing to have
ratings sink --- and profits sink ---
as long as their people are in power in DC ---

When they see a shift possibly coming --- then they react as they have been doing.

Look at the history of GE --- it's a criminal corporation --- more rw than Hitler.

22. Oddly enuf, it's a conservative trend. This outlet is proving it can
be profitable. Donahue may have had ratings, but political pressure was quick and effective when he spoke out against the pending war in Iraq.

Times and have changed and so should your thinking. Don't waste energy fighting yesterday's battles - particularly when your side is prevailing in the ideological war that started long before you and I were born.

Dan Abrams saw a lot at his daddy's knee ... and is still willing to oppose the questionably legitimate regime? More power to him - I saw Donahue and Jeff Cohen taken down from an insider's perspective ... did you see Cohen's memoir of the experience?

MSNBC's new assertiveness is a positive development.

25. I believe I did read a lot about it --- I do remember the ridiculous restrictions
they put on Donahue --- he counted as like 4 liberals --
and then they were making him put on 8 conservatives to balance things---!!!

Ridiculous ---

Over the years, many excellent liberal hosts ---
One was a movie star whose name I can't recall --- he was in the dog/Beethoven movies?

Sensational ---
but even a hint of a liberal voice is a huge threat to them ---

These people --- from the WSJ to GE --- will continue to try to undermine democracy ---
they are of the elite and they will not stop that chessgame.

7. On the other hand, is this an enlightenment or is MSNBC/GE just the first to smell the $ moving ????
Does GE just have a better nose for knowing that the power is shifting --
that the $ was moving to Dems ---

MSM has to deal with the next in power --- they need to know whose ass to kiss.
MSM gets 80% of the campaign funds raised by candidates ---
They will be nice to those who butter their bread ---

not as nice as they might be to the real criminals they support --- but ....

10. They can shift to the Dems all they want....
They've been shitting on Democrats since St. Raygun and I, for one, have no intention of forgiving them any time soon. They have enabled the destruction of the Constitution, every other abomination in this administration and I really didn't want or need to have Bill Clinton's dalliances with Whormonica described graphically each night over dinner. They suck and they should pay. I hope they're crapping their pants at the thought of Hillary in the WH and a strong Dem majority in both houses of Congress.

16. this is worth doing some research on -- MSNBC seems to have gone thru a war
of ideology. i wonder what the real politik is behind the scenes at MSNBC. they did some REALLY stupid, idologically-driven things, like shitcanning Ashleigh Banfield. And hiring Tucker Carlson. I'm totally okay with their new image being driven by the bottom line. i've been saying this for years -- started a newspaper on the this principle -- the marketplace of ideas has ignored a major audience. they are stupid to leave left-moderate money on the table.

i can imagine that Abrams has grown into his current image. doesn't bother me one bit. the flap is open to our tent.

18. No, wait . . . the rw media is willing to have ratings drop to basement; profits drop ---
to stick with rw ideiology and support crimials ---

However, when they understand that there is a power shift coming and their licenses
may be on the line, then they respond ---

They are NOT involved in an "enlightenment" nor supporting the marketplace of ideas ---
IMO.

Plus, they have to compete with others for the campaign funds ---
