In Iowa, Democratic presidential rival John Edwards said of the comments:
"I reject it. I reject it, and I want nothing to do with that kind of politics."

52. that's exactly it
they used that tactic to destroy Gore in 2000 and Kerry in 2004. Good on Edwards for taking the high road. I'm still not 100% behind any of the candidates yet but he's looking more and more like my choice. Hillary, I used to admire the hell out of that woman. I still do, I guess, I admire her courage and her intelligence but for my tastes she's become (or maybe always was?) too conservative and that's NOT what we need right now.

9. I'm glad that John weighed in. Iowans like John and are apparently turning off to Hillary in droves.
I keep telling John's supporters, keep it on the high road. It's what wins elections.

And Obama, so far, is responding cooly to Hillary's attacks which keeps him on the high road.

The optimistic, upbeat will carry the day in Iowa and New Hampshire.

102. I agree....Edwards "done good"!
There is a pattern to the Hillary campaign of late. They throw mud. Then someone apologizes. Then they throw some more mud. And someone else apologizes. Then more mud and more apologies.

Well enough already! If the Hillary campaign want us to think their apologies are sincere, they should show some contrition behind the apologies. If they were really sorry for throwing mud, they would stop throwing mud. Instead of doing more deeds to apologize for tomorrow.

29. It's the name of a song by the band Lard.
Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 11:33 AM by Forkboy
Lard is Jello Biafra from the Dead Kennedys with Ministry. Forkboy was the song I was playing when I signed up, and was the safer of the two choices I had in mind. The other was a different song on the disc called Sylvestre Matuschka about a former Hungarian WW1 demolitions expert who masturbated to train wrecks that he caused. I didn't know how well my demented sense of humor would work here though. Plus, Forkboy was easier to type. :D

98. Wow, that's cool.
Must have been a ton of fun. Punk in those days was a different breed than the safe stuff these days. There were tons of great punk bands and they all sounded different from one another. DK, Minutemen, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Crass (one of the best!), etc. Now all punk is basically Green Day type stuff, which is ok (Green Day has some awesome lyrics, I'll give them that), but too many bands are that same simple punk that even your parents can like. And if that doesn't defeat the purpose I don't know what does.

97. I was psyched to see him with the Melvins, who I love.
And those two CDs are both really good, the most natural fit for Jello since DK in my mind (though his CD with Nomeansno is still my favorite, but that's because Nomeansno is my all time favorite band, so hard to go wrong there).

There's supposed to be at least one more Lard cd now that Al Jourgeson is wrapping up Ministry for good. He'll be focusing on side projects more, and Lard is one of them. Jello did a couple songs with both Ministry and the Revolting Cocks recently and it's basically Lard tunes.

Check out the video for that Ministry concert and listen to Jello's version of the Pledge of Allegiance and his antics during the following Nazi-themed song "The Land of Rape and Honey."

The coolest bit that applies to Bush as well as his father (who Jello was talking about):

After all, have you noticed
The more they dole out Democracy over there
The more they take it away over here

20. John Edwards is doing what is best for John Edwards...and he learned
quickly that attacks did him no good. After he was booed in Nevada, and after Dodd said he was negative, he got the message. The American people did not want him to attack. And he stopped.

And, of course, it is best for him politically, to stay out of the fray and let Obama and Clinton attack each other.

Good political move.

21. I just figured you'd cut to the heart of those "questions" and ask:
How is that relevant?

I mean, just because a preson is from the press does not mean you can't question their motives or intent.

Did you smoke pot/ snort bannana peels/etc?

How is that relevant to the job I want to do as President?

If they can give a reasonable response like: "Well, someone saw you licking toads last week and we think you may be mentally or constitutionally unfit to serve." Then Okay. Answer the question.

God I wish someone had said that to George.

32. Mr. Edwards impresses me more all the time.
I only recently made my final decision and committeed to supporting him. I can see now that my decision was correct, not just because of this, but at least a dozen positions he has taken recently.

Is her perfect? No, is anyone?

But it is a common Bushie strategy, and therefore a common Sen. Clinton stategy (sorry, but reality is what reality is), to take those minor imperfections and using allies in the MSM, trumpet them into a gigantic distraction carnival circus of nonsense designed to obfuscate and confuse...like a squid squirting ink into the waters.

Have you noticed? Unlike Bush & Clinton, John Edwards doesn't have any significant corrupt MSM toadies in his corner, and we should all be prepared for a unified firestorm from the Busheis and the MSM if we defy their wishes and somehow (if this is still even possible) manage to get someone nominated who hasn't been already chosen by the MSM, in this case Sen. Clinton and 9/11ani.

I consider all of this to be a huge plus.

Onward, John Edwards!

this issue just right.

I must confess, Obama has fallen from my tied-for-number-two choice to completely off the radar screen as a result of the tone of all the chatter this week.

I know that Hillary is equally guilty in the mess, but my mixed impression of her already included some expectation that her campaign would go down this path. I had higher expectations from Obama's campaign and so I'm more disappointed in how his campaign has responded tto this mess.

I hope the debate gets everyone back on the issues. Since Dennis was so unfairly excluded from the debate, this is just about my only hope for the debate.

who (so far this cycle) has not acted like a child. That's been sorely lacking this time out.

45. Beautifully and succinctly said, John.
It must be hell for political operatives today, with the stakes going up and the Macchiavellian necessity to get nastier and nastier, while trying just as desperately to keep the pretense that they really have hearts of gold.

With the way the game is going, they're not going to be able to keep up that pretense for much longer.

Frankly, I am quite sick of both of them period. I am really leaning hard toward John Edwards. He seems like a class act.

81. Why do you blame Obama for something Clinton is clearly
doing herself? Obama's not hitting back calling her all kinds of names. I mean he replied, like he should have...but to spin this as a bloodsport is misleading. The only thing Obama is doing is trying to get his supporters to give him more money from this.

50. Huzzah to John Edwards!
That is a classy, honorable tack to take in this issue and is going to way in when the voters go the polls. Let Obama and Clinton bleed eachother white, as I recall Kerry was able to fly under the radar of Dean vs. Gephardt and both of the latter were destroyed at the Iowa caucus while Kerry took the prize and it looks like Edwards both has the class and smarts to do the same.

59. Americans have already elected a coke head DUI and another who smoked dope (though he didn't inhale)
Accusing a candidate of being unfit because he experimented with drugs as a teenager is dumb politics (and throwing stones from a glass house if you consider how much more sinful pot was in Bill Clinton's day than Coke was in Obama's).

If the MSM would just stop hyping this as a Two Man Race between Obama and Hillary, Edwards would be the front runner and the next president. Obama and Hillary both should be ashamed of themselves allowing the corporate media to pimp for them, just because the RNC would rather run one of their pitiful Republicans against Hillary the B Word or Obama the Untried than Edwards who still beats all the Republicans handily in any poll that is taken. Their ambition could cost the Dems (and America) another 4 years in Iraq and another 4 years without health care and another 4 years of oil company greed. Neither of them deserves their front runner status.

63. Edwards improved his campaign by letting up on the attacks
I can respect that. This latest statement though is just a way to pile on without leaving fingerprints.

He could have said that the comments were improper but since Hillary apologized and the commenter resigned that we can all get back to positive campaigning.

Of course, I won't attack Edwards for lying about Hillary screening questions and planting audience members. I'm not that kind of guy.

Lets see what Mr. Google has to say about MMM Clinton drugs(1), MMM Clinton Mena Ark.(2) MMM Clinton Contra(3).
You really don't want to bring up anyones past, the republicans will take care of that if Clinton gets the nomination.

Google hits: 1.605,000
2. 42,200
3.486,000

And save the stupid comments about all 1,178,200 hits being right wing hacks.

will the Republics reject "that kind of politics?" I think you know the answer. If they have a video of you jaywalking, they'll use it to show that you're soft on crime.

I can see it now. You're crossing the street on a red light, and halfway across, you morph into Saddam Hussein carrying a nuclear weapon.

Hmmm... Did a certain Democratic candidate hire Karl Rove as political adviser?

After all, the winner must LIVE with the consequences of having a pissed-off but grudgingly supportive electorate.

And in the worst case scenario, no electorate at all.

Interjecting into the race between Clinton and Obama. Edwards and Mike Gravel should really do whats best for our party and our country by dropping out of the race and supporting the two with a chance.

and neither is any one of the other candidates still in the race. Edwards has a fighting chance to win Iowa. He has an organization well established and good grass roots support.

95. Such silliness. Their supporters feel all 8 candidates are in the race, should be
in the race, are logically discussing issues and ideas, and properly offering to be part of the repairwork needed after 8 years of Dumbya and evil Dick.

We're selecting a nominee. This is the process.

101. Kudos to Senator Clinton for apologizing, I respect that!
America needs the most knowledgeable and diplomatic leader right now -- More than ever in History ...
I hear she didn't know and the person responsible stepped down... I guess it wasn't Karl Rove's idea after all. :yoiks:

The apology was the right thing to do. We don't need another president who puts politics and power above common decency and the good of the people...

- However, I'm still waiting for the more important apologies! Great song in honor of Hillary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNTV8BC50ac "Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven,You can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin' come the judgment day
on the bloody morning after.... one tin soldier rides away."

Not just me either. But, every pundit on tv saw right through it.
It was so obvious that even Chris Matthews was foaming at the mouth.
And he's been pushing Hillary to run for 4 years.
