Poll question: Keyes or Kucinich?
Neither have commercial storefront offices in Iowa, but one gets to participate in the presidential debates and the other doesn't. Which has a better claim for the right to participate?

1. Are both Repub and Dem debates sponsored by the same Des Moines Register???
If so, the Des Moines Register is pretty miserly in applying standards. I haven't even heard Alan Keyes officially announce he's running for president until now, let alone have any office in Iowa.

3. Will the person who selected Alan Keyes please not be a chickenshit and tell us why...

... .. Come on, have the nerve to tell us why you'd select that fruitcake over Congressman Kucinich!

We'll be awaiting your response..

4. I know a woman who lives in Iowa. While not overtly political she is aware
and is definitely what you'd call middle America. Went for Bush over over Kerry, regrets it now, but she wouldn't vote for Hillary as dogcatcher. She might vote for Obama. She hasn't even heard of Kucinich.Does that give you a clue of how the press is playing him in Iowa?Pisses me right the hell off, but they know Kooch ain't no friend of their's.If DK gets 1%in Iowa it'll be a stunner.

5. Without the influence of Kucinich
Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 04:46 AM by cyclezealot
pushing them towards progressive stands on healthcare, war, trade; there is no hope. We find no reason to watch since the rest will assuredly betray us on these three issues. Can't goad them into what is right, why bother. We won't be watching tonight. News reviews are good enough. Time to retire for no one is home with that crew. Those three issues are our primary interest, and if we feel they are unanswered we have no reason to participate. Au Revoir for now.

6. The number of posts/threads on the exclusion of Kucinich are...
almost overwhelming here on DU at the moment.

Dennis knew the rules and requirements of making the debates.

Dennis deliberately ignored the rules and requirements.

Dennis has, as a result, been excluded.

Dennis, and his many followers, would prefer to sit or stand outside and scream, whine, and cry about his exclusion. That gets media attention.

Keyes has been appearing throughout the midwest for years at colleges and universities usually sponsored by the GOP funded Young Republicans. He has, to simply make a point, campaigned at the colleges and universities. He undoubtedly has an office(one or more)in the kickoff state of Iowa.

He very quietly, as was noted here on DU, threw his hat in the ring several weeks ago.

Except for Dennis's supporters, very vocal and fractous that bunch, the rest of us realize just how incompetent a campaign Dennis runs--and has run in the past.

Couple more weeks and the primary begins. Once the candidate is chosen as nominee, then are we to expect another year of 'sour grapes' from the Dennis for something or other supporters?

8. Do you normally generalize with all of your posts
Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 05:48 AM by cboy4
or only in this specific instance, lumping all Kucinich supporters in one bunch? (especially the "fractous" (sic) part?)

It's very insulting, as I'm sure you intended it to be.

on edit...punctuation

10. These are the rules. Kucinich meets the criteria way better than Keyes
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/12/13/opinion/main3614663.shtml

The criteria for admission to the debate, according to the Register, were that a candidate must have filed papers with the Federal Election Commission; that he must have publicly announced his candidacy; that he have a campaign office in Iowa as of October 1; that he have at least one full-time paid staff member in Iowa; and that he score at least one percent support in the Register’s October poll.
