Luntz Focus Group in Iowa: Edwards 10% before debate, about 50% after debate
Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 05:13 PM by jsamuel
It said that 3/30 supported Edwards before the debate and after the debate about half supported Edwards. (Fox News)

The CNN focus group also went to Edwards.

43. If They Stacked the Groups, They Sure as Heck Were Not being Stacked for Edwards.
The surprise in the Clinton Nominating Network Newsroom was astounding!

Wolf convened an emergency session of the Clinton spin support group lasting TEN full minutes... Then went to Donna Brazille who promptly relegated Edwards to "almost forgot land" by first citing the "two top tier candidates" Obama and Hillary did well, then listed all of the "second tier candidates" as having performed well... then, almost in passing said and oh yes John Edwards .. "did OK too" WHAT#%&@*(&%@ :wtf:

What a dance CNN was doing in trying mightily to sweep John Edwards under the proverbial rug! Then went to the bigggg distraction story detailing the steroid use among baseball players like Bonds, Clemons etc.

THIS IS.. THE CORPORATE MEDIA SPIN!

Sorry but yelling as it were is appropriate here... :nuke:
......................................................................:nuke:
.........................................................................................:nuke:

:woohoo: JOHN EDWARDS is on track to WIN in Iowa :woohoo:

Well...

I am dubious of anything Luntz says. And Fox is useless.

I wonder what would have happened if Kucinich would have been allowed into a debate like this? A debate where he would have been given equal time. A pity NONE of the candidates spoke up on his behalf.

21. Focus group of Dem voters said that Edwards won
Frank Luntz ran the focus group with 30 participants. Only 3 were supporting Edwards to start.

At the end of the debate almost half were supporting Edwards. Therefore Edwards won.

8. That's incredible.
That shows that the midwest is some ways more liberal than the northeast. Edwards message was blatantly anti-corporate. I thought it was the best message, but just assumed it would turn people off. I hoe that result is right, because if it is, it's a signal to the Democrats they can need to move to the left.

11.  no. it doesn't show that the midwest is more liberal than the northeast
all you have to do to see that, is look at Huckabee's numbers in Iowa. There is no way that the midwest is as liberal as say, New England.

46. I disagree.
I believe there is about 33% of our country that is just bat shit crazy. You want proof? Check Bush's numbers.

Those are the people in Iowa for Huckabee. And those are about the numbers he would carry in the GE.

15. I believe that anti-corporate is exactly the message that will win...
Americans are ready for a populist. The Rethugs have spent the last several decades using powerful vague messaging to communicate that "We are you - we share your values, we know you care about your families, your church, we know your stresses and your source of strength..." That message is essentially a populist message -- minus the populist economic policy -- Edwards is bringing the populist economic policy and citizens are finally, finally ready for it. This is why Edwards scares the Republican strategists the most.

28. The CORPORATE CANCER is the CORE issue of what's wrong in this country!
Literally EVERYTHING feeds off this!!! Hillary and even Obama are too accepting of the role that corporate America plays now....Edwards is calling it "rigged." That's a helluva big difference!!

31. We're liberal, but
But, we're not, unfortunately, anti-corporate in the way Edwards was talking about. We have a lot of corporate Democrats in Mass. That's why we've had so many Republican governors.

34. All that Republican Governor junk is behind you now though.
:). I do see your point however re: pro-corporate Democrats. Having worked at a Venture Capital firm in Boston... I know what you mean. In my experience though... it seems the majority of pro-corporate people are Republicans. But since you live there I'll assume you know more about your state than I do.

I think its probably harder to sell a populist approach to people who are 'better-off'. Maybe thats the difference between the midwest and northeast.

36. OK, I've said some bad things about
Luntz that are all true. I'll stifle any redemptive sentiment just because my choice is the current beneficiary of his ever present focus group.(Why always him, he can't be trusted?).

I think recent hits from Bush on down have tried to carefully do a couple of things. Take Hillary down from a perception of massive inevitability and landslide unity among the Dems. Bloodying the waters hurts all Dems, but think they see Hillary's machine as quite sufficient to win after painful setbacks. They simply don't want her to win any perceived strength outside our own party. Obama and Hillary are locked in a death match in Iowa so the main thing is to make Hillary come in third or worse which would really wound her campaign.

IF Luntz has that much control over his focus group selection, then this what he MIGHT be up to, simply by getting people in tune with Edwards and disenchanted with the Obama/Clinton "war". It is hard to toy with a primary and in the next stages Hillary's strength can be reasserted without having the plan backfire and handing Edwards the nomination. This may be the last time any Luntz focus group backs Edwards even if he does handstands and miracles.

The GOP interference in our process is both stupid and skillful. Lord knows. The only perceptions that matter is where the voters come down. A Luntz focus group gives one assist. Don't invite him to tea because of that. The ways they can later assist Hillary to rely in her weakness on sheer establishment strength are many, the goal being more division and doubt within the party at al levels and more Hillary reliance on the dark side. If they bump her down without raising her up then they have to move on down the line and weaken the rest of the candidates in timely fashion. A long way to go and they don't want their game to end in Iowa. As in recent elections there is an eerie lack of concern with the pitiful GOP field. One would think this the mark of losers and incompetence, but watch out.

Luntz segment on Combs on Faux on my TV machine. What were the lines? Was Lunz attached to a polygraph? Anyway after seeing the debate I am moving toward the Edwards camp as we speak, a couple more days and I may have to change my signature line!

Edited to say, be EXTREMELY F'ING CAREFUL if you decide to look at your TV machine to see Luntz because the very next segment after the Luntz segment is that huge "C" word...you know the one...the most offensive one...the one which is just unspeakable...thats right...Coulter!
