When do you think we'll hear this from an American candidate?
Edited on Tue Dec-18-07 12:17 AM by JackBeck
“I want to apologise to you and to all those who we in the church have persecuted

I’m sorry that we have been part of the persecution of a particular group. For me that is quite un-Christ like and, for that reason, it is unacceptable.

Maybe...I probably have, to some extent, a kind of authority but apart from anything let me say for myself and anyone who might want to align themselves with me, I’m sorry.

I’m sorry for the hurt, for the rejection, for the anguish that we have caused to such as yourselves.”

1. About the same time we hear one say...
..."Y'know, all this religion stuff is a buncha hooey. I don't believe in any kinda sky fairy and I'll bet if you think about it, you'll all agree it's a pretty ridiculous concept too. In any case, if we're waiting around for some divine miracle to pull our collective asses out of the fire, we'll be waiting a looooong time, so I suggest we get our heads out of our asses, get off our knees, roll up our sleeves, and start making this world a better place ourselves."

In other words, never.

2. When one of them is running on behalf of a church
That's not the kind of statement a politician would make

3. I would have severe issues with that candidate.
They are speaking as if they are some form of authority in their church, and I do not like to hear candidates talk as if they were speaking for a church.

4. If you were to choose, whose view would you support?
The Pope's or the former Arch Bishop's?

6. Rev. Tutu's, of course.
That is him, right?

7. Yes, that's the gentleman to admire.
But I would never suggest they were speaking "as if they are some form of authority in their church".

I just encourage leadership anywhere I can find it.
