things like impeachment (instead of pushing ahead) or Waxman's asking AGAIN for the DoJ records from Mukasey (instead of sending someone? to seize the records) or the Senate committee's subpoenas of Meiers and others being ignored and not sending Capitol police to arrest the criminals.... What difference is there between the Congressional substitution of verbiage for action and the reliance of the populace (us) on letters to the editors or members of Congress instead of taking more direct, effective action against those who are doing so much damage? Are we soothing our conscience by deluding ourselves into believing that we are actually doing something? Day after day, year after year, I have seen countless posts where someone writes a letter to someone and the writer is praised for doing such a good job. Even if the words are sent to a repug operative, the writer is lauded for speaking the truth or telling "them" off. As if Tony Snow or Arlen Specter will ever even see the brilliant words, much less "learn" something or change their way of thinking. I think we are just pissing into the wind to boost our own ego or make ourselves feel good. It accomplishes nothing. Real change is only going to come about through direct action.
