A Republican AND Democratic logo for caucuses
Posted at 4:52 PM

by Rick Pearson

DES MOINES—The Iowa Democratic and Republican parties today unveiled a joint logo for caucus night, a reflection of their efforts to maintain Iowa's first-in-the-nation status despite efforts by other states to get an earlier say.

Appropriately enough, the logo has the Democrats' donkey on left and the Republican elephant is perched at the right atop the word "IOWA." Just in case anyone could forget what is at stake, the words "First in the nation" are located on top.

"This logo is merely a small representation of the massive collaborative effort that the Democratic Party and the Republican Party of Iowa have been working on together," said Mike Milligan, the executive director of the state's Democrats. "We will be ready on Jan. 3, 2008, to host the first in the nation caucuses."

Chuck Laudner, the executive director of the Iowa Republican Party, said the caucuses were "historic" because of the wide-open nature of the race in both parties.

"Iowa first in the nation, that is the key for us and in the future—to keep Iowa first and hold this responsibility," Laudner said.

More than 2,000 members of the media are expected to cover caucus night and the political parties decided to collaborate, Laudner said, because "we want to showcase Iowa beyond partisan politics and beyond the election right at hand, but to show them Iowa and Iowans and why we get to go first in the nation."

But can Democrats and Republicans work together in Iowa when they can't seem to get along anywhere else?

"It's gone very smoothly for us," Laudner said. "You might be surprised, but we worked together very well."

2. Perfect position
the donkey is in a position to kick. All the elephant can do is shit.

That's probably what we'll see for all of 2008.

4. good logo for republicratic party
The party for politicians that claim to oppose republicans in campaign speeches but yield to the republicans every time when votes are counted. They should work in pictures of Pelosi, Reid and of course Lieberman.
