"A Son’s Past Deeds Come Back To Bite Huckabee"
By Michael Isikoff and Holly Bailey | NEWSWEEK
Dec 24, 2007 Issue | Updated: 2:51 p.m. ET Dec 15, 2007

As Mike Huckabee gains in the polls, the former Arkansas governor is finding that his record in office is getting more scrutiny. One issue likely to get attention is his handling of a sensitive family matter: allegations that one of his sons was involved in the hanging of a stray dog at a Boy Scout camp in 1998. The incident led to the dismissal of David Huckabee, then 17, from his job as a counselor at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, Ark. It also prompted the local prosecuting attorney— bombarded with complaints generated by a national animal-rights group—to write a letter to the Arkansas state police seeking help investigating whether David and another teenager had violated state animal-cruelty laws. The state police never granted the request, and no charges were ever filed. But John Bailey, then the director of Arkansas's state police, tells NEWSWEEK that Governor Huckabee's chief of staff and personal lawyer both leaned on him to write a letter officially denying the local prosecutor's request....

21. Actually, FatBoy also beat it, stoned it and slit its throat--I don't know why
those happy little details are left out, but this guy was clearly getting his jollies by savaging this poor dog.

30. Disgusting. So much for those 'family values'...
Michael Vick gets prison and this sadistic pig gets a cover-up by his hypocrite jerk of a father.

What kind of sadist does that to an innocent creature?? And what kind of father covers up the disturbing crime instead of getting help for serial-killer-in-training son?? Inconceivable that this jerk is running to be 'leader of the free world'. :wtf:

Can't believe I'm actually going to say this but Huckabee sounds like he would be even WORSE than Bush if that's at all possible.

20. And look how they're holding the dog...
...looks odd to me. If they feared the dog would run away, you'd think they would just hold him/her by the collar. Mrs. Huckster looks like she's pinching its neck and Huckster is holding it by its paw.

19. Amen to that
A funny aside: the head of Minnesota's Pat Robertson '88 campaign is currently in jail, on trial for massive tax evasion. Apparently the guy got hold of some anti-tax kook's propaganda and bought it hook, line and sinker.

Family values, indeed.

in the afterglow of victory on the podium, but seemed to leave all other Huckabees behind!

They all look like inbred serial killers.

Especially David the dog slaughterer.

Can you imagine that John Wayne Gacy looking M.F. as the first son?

Makes the blood run cold.

27. Why is Huck anti-abortion? You'd think he would pro after a look
at this. Makes you feel sorry for Hucklebee momentarily - until you remember his sneaky bookcase (it's not a cross) ad, and his freeing the rapist only because he had raped a cousin of Bill Clinton....doesn't make him seem like such a nice guy, you local pastor, when you think of those things does it?

32. Definitely not...
And the whole "trying to get his son off the hook after torturing a dog to death" thing is pretty sickening as well.

That's psychopathic behavior, and not to be taken lightly. The fact that Huckabee was ok with sweeping such a deed under the carpet illustrates that he's just as creepy as his son.

31. Good lord, I hate to be this mean, but...
The family look like total cretins. I mean, come on...

And if the son actually did that, he needs to do jail time.
