Rich Vs. Poor.

We are suckers.

The middle class was created to make somewhat poor folk feel better about themselves by giving them a group to look down on, and by giving the real poor folk something to aspire to.

Meanwhile the rich fuckers laugh their asses off.

Someday soon, the shit will hit the fan, and it will be guillotine time again.

Good post.

Though that is not in fact why the middle class was created.

First of all by dividing class into only 3 sections , you are already off because you eliminate the "working class".

That said, the reason for maintaning a middle class is it's stabilizing influence on society.
It has neither the revolutionary tendencies of the lower class, nor the absolutist tendencies of the entrenched wealthy elite.

Further it serves as a consumer base and helps to "feed the machine"

It's not a 3 class model at any rate. It's actually 5.

Upper class, Upper middle class, lower middle class, working class, and lower class.

You might argue that Republican systems favor shrinking the class system down to 3 classes --and finally to just two.
