Wikipedia says Hillary was a Republican! She supported Right Wing Extremist Goldwater!
Unbelievable, she supported right wing extremist Barry Goldwater in 1964

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._presidential_election,_1964

Why isn't the Obama camp running on this?

While losing quite badly in the 1964 election, Goldwater laid the foundation for the conservative revolution to follow. Ronald Reagan's speech on Goldwater's behalf, grassroots organization, and the conservative takeover of the Republican party would all help to bring about the "Reagan Revolution" of the 1980s. Indeed, many of today's leading politicians first entered politics to work for Goldwater (including Hillary Clinton, who was a 'Goldwater girl').

20. So
Obama should be running on what she believed in 1968??

Something that has been open and public since then??

Who gives a fuck what happened in 1968?

If John Kerry would have run on 2004 and not what he did in Vietnam, and what Chimpy McDraftdoger didn't do in Vietnam, he wouldn't have allowed himself to be swiftboated.

Those of us of a certain age, (I'm 35), are sick and tired of the Baby Boomers arguing about the 60s. i don't give a shit anymore.

That's why I support Obama, b/c it's time for the Baby Boomers to let the next generation to have a chance.

But I'll defend Hilary here, because you're post is just silly and irrelevant. If Obama attacks Hillary for being a Goldwater Girl, than that's just ridiculous.

38. Youth does not equal liberalism. Youth equals idealism.
And Goldwater was about as idealistic as you could get. Read Conscience of a Conservative some time; it's all idealistic (and frankly unrealistic) pap.

There may be plenty of things to say against Hillary Clinton; but her political beliefs as a teenager are not really relevant.

We should be happy people grow and change from their early years. It's the ones who DON'T grow and change who are the most troubling.

I was supporting NIXON when I was in junior high.

So what.

Attack her record since becoming Senator. Attack her proposals. Attack her campaign tactics.

But lets not attack her for what she was doing as a teenager.

And we shouldn't attack Obama what what he did as a teenager either.

I think before the age of 18 should be off-limits... We all did stupid shit when we were young.

Obama should really make a big deal out of this because it has great relevance today. Much more than the fact that she switched to the Democratic Party within several years against the wishes of her very Republican father, and has been a loyal Democrat ever since.

Hillary Clinton was about 17 in 1964, no?
She should be penalized for her support of a politician 44 years ago when she was a teenager?

Imagine what would happen if we were all similarly penalized for what we did as teenagers.

I have a question: what were your politics 44 years ago? Have you ever changed your mind about anything? When you were 16 did you have everything figured out just so? Do you think any of the other candidates might not want to be judged on the basis of their 16 year old selves?

Did you think of any of this before you posted?

53. Yeah, I've heard her say that. And I've read it. Beware the Wikipedia.
Although Senator Clinton was a 17 year old Goldwater supporter, the Wikipedia is very prone to being altered in the name of corporate interests. I guess they thought someone (or maybe two people) would think this was a shocking revelation. If the Obama camp were running on this, there wouldn't be an Obama camp. The man is way, way more intelligent that that. In fact, I'm really hoping Clinton/Obama spreads like wildfire on bumper stickers throughout the country. We need two scrappers on the ticket.

58. Reagan voted for Roosevelt! So....
We were all young and idealistic at one time. At least if you were into politics at early ages. Some of us don't read anything until we're into our 30s, and make voting decisions based on some 'Karl Rove' type ad.

68. FWIW, Wikipedia could say the same about you too.
Since it is open to any editing, Wikipedia is NOT always reliable. Better to get info from other sources.

On the topic of HRC's early political activities, you CAN get that info from HRC herself. She has been up front about being a Goldwater Girl. If that is what troubles you about her, relax.

People do grow and change as they experience more life. For instance, you may gather experience and learn there are much better sources of information than Wikipedia.

71. Who cares if Hillary was a Goldwater Girl?
Who cares if Obama was a troubled teenager who tried drugs? Oh . . . wait . . . it seems a certain campaign has mentioned that a number of times, haven't they? Never mind.

Oh my.

And, I voted for Reagan when I was in college. I was clueless. At least HRC didn't vote like I did.

76. yes we should always be penalized for what we did in our teens. we should disregard
positive chnages that people have made to their lives.

that would be too mature for us.

90. I was a Republican in my youth...
I was a Republican in my youth. Voted for Reagan in 1984. Dear God-- I guess I'm just not a good Democrat, either...

...unless of course, one takes into account that as a person grows and changes throughout their lives, a concomitant part of that change is political.

As for me, I see a large difference between what a person does in their youth and what they do in the here and now.

But, I'm sure that many people don't hold to that, and think that if a teen involved himself in local, beer-induced drag-race on the strip twenty or thirty years ago, then by God(!) he must still be doing the same thing.
