Hillary Stuck in South Carolina/Explains Clinton Bizarre Behavior

Five polls taken in the last 10 days have shown Hillary moving nowhere with all showing her at the same exact point 30-31%

This is particularly surprising since it includes both famous national polls and leading regional pollster. Obama is similarly firm at 40-42% (one earlier poll had him at 50%)

Here is the link http://www.pollster.com/08-SC-Dem-Pres-Primary.php

South Carolina with its proximity to Super Tuesday is likely to have an even bigger impact than New Hampshire or Iowa.

For those of us who have witnessed the clever strategic and tactical Clinton machine and have wondered why they have been so inept with their surrogates starting bizarre faux controversies and provocative race coded messages the most plausible answer now appears to be:

Clinton's are resigned to a significant defeat in South Carolina and want to create as many 'crazy' diversions as possible so that in the spin after the fact they can say that South Carolina results were 'spoiled' by all of these many unfortunate diversions and have no implications at all on how the big states on super Tuesday are going to perform. The Clinton cheerleaders will have their predictable superficial response but I would be interested in any intelligent Clinton explanation for the increasingly bizarre and obviously planned series of surrogate attacks on Obama?

2. does this mean she will find a new and creative way to block some voters there?
you know, like when they tried to keep college students from caucusing in Iowa and now low income casino-related workers in Las Vegas?

3. No
It means that by mudding up the debate in South Carolina that when the results come out they will be prepared to argue that they are inconclusive because the debate got side tracked into all of these "unfortunate" side issues.

that is why he won in South Carolina.

Let's echo the media who echo the blogosphere who echo the media who echo the blogosphere....

Do you people have any idea how useless all this chatter is? The high-fiving, the smears, the echo-chamber?

No, I'm sure you don't.

The fact is what we say here, what we do here, will not be long-remembered. It's all noise.

but I have noticed that you have consistently made disparaging comments about the general level of discussion here.

So why do you stay?

9. The only one dragging down candidates is Clinton

Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, took aim at Hillary Clinton on Monday, saying her criticism of Barack Obama's stance on the Iraq war was "not founded on accuracy." He also ripped into comments made by Clinton surrogates hinting at Obama's past drug use, calling the remarks "negative in the worst, petty way,"

I am an Edwards supporter who is tired of Clinton trying to sabotage the debate. In this case it happens to be against Obama. If Clinton loses its because of her attempt to drag down Obama instead of outracing him. You should direct your anger at her not at those who call her on it.

20. But...But...But. at the end of the day on DU,particularly
nobody outside our "Big Bubble" here cares what we say.

My "American Presidency" Spring Semester class...gets to work on campaigns as partial credit until February 7th,2008. They had to turn in "credential cards" yesterday, showing their "Mentor/contact person" with each campaign in the Pa.- N.J. area.

This morning here's my card count:

Huckabee- 2
Clinton- 6
McCain- 4
Obama- 36
____
48

Now...there's a poll...ALL registered to vote. Some will vote in Pa. Primary, some will go home to Jersey some have all ready voted by absentee.

California NAACP President Alice Huffman Endorses Clinton
Huffman Supports Clinton as "staunch advocate for rights of all Americans"

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Clinton campaign today announced the endorsement of Alice Huffman, President of the California State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP.) The endorsement comes on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s birthday. Senator Clinton delivered a speech in honor of the national holiday today at an SEIU celebration in New York City.

"Over the years, Hillary Clinton has earned my respect as a staunch advocate for the rights of people invisible to our nation's government, including women, minorities, children, and seniors," said Huffman. "Hillary shares my commitment to children, and has been a lifelong advocate for improving childhood education and health care. As President, I feel strongly that Hillary will create an atmosphere in this country that accepts and promotes the rights of all Americans."

Huffman has a distinguished career in public advocacy. Since 1999, she has been president of the California State Conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the nation's oldest civil rights organization. In 2002, Huffman was elected to the NAACP's National Board of Directors were she currently serves as Region I Board Member. Huffman has previously served as associate executive director for politics for the California Teachers Association and state president of the Black American Political Association of California.

"It is wrong that that Americans still face discrimination in the workplace - that children still attend schools that are separate and unequal, and that schools don’t prepare them for the jobs of the 21st century," said Senator Clinton. "Alice and I have long shared the same cause of fighting to right those wrongs and I am both honored and humbled to have her support."

Senator Hillary Clinton’s speech at the SEIU birthday celebration can be viewed in its entirety here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNB3EHA5_k0 .

thrilled with Obama coming in and shaking things up. Let's see how rank and file AA's vote in the South in the primaries ...

24. Look, we all know what went down, and it started before Iowa, with
the "is he a drug dealer?" meme. And then it was Mark Penn talkin' cocaine. Then they poll tested "cocaine", and found that not a good word. So then we have Robert Johnson coming out with "doing whatever", wink, wink. The Clintons are not racist in any way. But they know that some voters may react to things, so that is why they keep pushing it. Notice that no one acted like Bush, with his rumored cocaine use, was a drug dealer. We all know what "drug dealers" look like. The whole thing was done in code to get voters' reactions. It was wrong, and good for Obama to state the obvious (that the Clintons are not racist) and to end the feud.

But the code language was there, and it was intended to strategically lose them SC, while perhaps eeking them out a win in NV and a "thumpin'" on Super Tuesday. I honestly can't believe they did this, it is so wrong. But Obama is doing his damndest to shut it down. If not for himself, than for the sake of the party. It could tear our party apart for YEARS if it's not shut down.

23. If Edwards does badly in his own back yard it will undermine his candidacy.
Especially considering that John Edwards was born in South Carolina.

But I guess he can always say that there are too many women and too many black folks down there ... :eyes:

Seriously - I am not anti-Edwards.

Just sayin' how it will look is all. B-)

by the way Sen Bayh just on MSNBC just advised that Clinton will not be apologizing or distancing itself from Sam Johnston's obvious 'bizarre' reference to his teenage drug use.

28. SC Polls
Poll Date Sample Obama Clinton Edwards Spread

RCP Average 01/04 - 01/13 - 42.7 32.0 16.0 Obama +10.7

Rasmussen 01/13 - 01/13 516 LV 38 33 17 Obama +5.0
InsiderAdvantage 01/07 - 01/07 393 LV 40 33 15 Obama +7.0
SurveyUSA 01/04 - 01/06 579 LV 50 30 16 Obama +20.0

Gee, that Survey USA seems to be a grotesque outlier, eh? Take that out and do an average........

Go here: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/sc/south_carolina_democratic_primary-234.html

Scroll down to the graph and see how weird Obama's perpendicular upswing thanks to that 20 point Survey USA poll.
