Clark at $928,354 in the Million Dollar Challenge!!
8049 contributors have done it. As of 10:30 this AM it was at $800, and something...

He's gonna make it.

Looks like Dean will hit about 14 million for the quarter, Clark about 12 million and it is unclear if anybody else will crack ten.

Wow!

3. Good for both of them
I was a little nervous about Clark's $1M challenge because it seemed a little unrealistic. Great job by supporters of both camps.

8. Yep
You can take all the online fundraiser goals the candidates have had recently: Clark $1m, Dean $1.5m, Kucinich $1.7, Gephardt $1m and Bush gets those numbers in 3 to 4 dinners.

No Dem is going to match Bush's numbers but fortunately $$$ alone aren't the issue. Al Gore didn't lose the WH in 2000 because Bush outspent him. There were several other issues such as basically ceding OH and NH to Bush during the GE portion when they were both operating with the same funding level.

10. I'm encouraged for the Dem party by this.
Think about this--the two top fundraisers from the Dem party are at about $26 million for the quarter, plus whatever the rest of the candidates pull in (not to marginalize them--but I'm looking at just the top two here.)

For not being incumbents, that is a big chunk of change.

Bush's goal is what? $200 million? The Dems are raising that much too. I will grant you that it will get spent in the primary--but it means that the Dem base IS energized. This is very good news, IMO.

15. The dollars sent to Clark Campaign is not a total waste
Even though Dean will defeat Clark in almost every state, this money is helping keep the unemployment numbers down. Just think about all those nice people employed by the Clark campaign, who would otherwise be either unemployed -or- take jobs away from someone else. It's all good!

19. Was that needful?
I've been fairly undecided up to recently when it came to the Primary. I really have no big issues with Dean--and will do all I can for him if he comes out of the Primary as the winner. This kind of sniping and carping really just makes it more difficult to get behind the party choice.

I realize it goes both ways--that some Clark folks are not so nice to Dean's supporters, and that some of the other candidates' supporters have not been supportive of the rest of the field--but is it needful to demean the fact that the Dems are doing SO well with fund raising as a whole?

I'm sorry to jump on YOU personally, but I've seen way too many general elections lost when folks personalize primaries and then sit out if their candidate loses.

Pax to you, and I hope you realize we all DO want to see Bush go.

28. Exactly!
Like I said--I have no bones with Dean! For me it is an opinion call either way it goes (including the rest of the Dem field, BTW.) I don't think that all ______ supporters are bad or good. I just think we hold differing views on a primary.

Dean has kicked big boo-tay with his organizing and fund raising. He took the internet and made it into a major organizing tool. I can't tell you how delighted I am to see it! he has done MUCH to make the Dem party stronger--and it is dead wrong to forget that.

Maybe my problem is I have worked (and lost!) in too many primaries to take it as a personal thing. As a Dem, I pick up my butt and work the full ticket after the primary ends--because that is how partisan politics works. It isn't always fun--but it is how you win the big prize.

Pax to you, and it is a DEMOCRATIC win we all are working for!

Look jus above the batter's head to see the ttoals from the 12 days of christmas drive to raise 1.5 million. It is currently at $1,128,000. So Dean blew passed 1 million in 11 days.

And this is the last day or so of the bat at the end of the quarter, the totals always start jumping like this at the last minute.

36. Not sure that's exactly right
I don't think the 60K was rolled into the MDC. Actually the MDC amounts contributed online were rolled into the birthday cake. That is why the birthday cake had a higher amount than the MDC while they were both going.

43. It seems so
From what is being reported on the Clark blog the southern newspapers are pretty thoroughly covering it. Clark raised another non-MDC $250k at a Memphis breakfast fundraiser. He seems to be getting good, enthusiastic crowds. It was a pretty strong move -- he has coordinated a fundraiser along with other speeches in each campaign city stop.

I mean God, your guy is unquestionably winning the online fundraising race.

I will never understand certain Dean supporters who feel the need to go into positive Clark threads and spread negativity. It smacks of sore winnerism.
