AP: Obama says Clinton would be a step back
Obama says Clinton would be a step back

By NEDRA PICKLER and MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writers

DENVER - Democratic Sen. Barack Obama said Wednesday a Hillary Rodham Clinton presidency would be a step back to the past, turning her husband's image of a bridge to the future against her. The former first lady decried the tenor of his comments in an interview with The Associated Press.

"I know it is tempting — after another presidency by a man named George Bush — to simply turn back the clock, and to build a bridge back to the 20th century," the Illinois senator said in Denver.

"... It's not enough to say you'll be ready from Day One — you have to be right from Day One," he added in unmistakable criticisms of Clinton, who often claims she's better prepared to govern, and her husband, who pledged during his own presidency to build a bridge to the 21st century.

Within hours, Hillary Clinton pushed back in an interview with the AP — and got in her own dig.

"That certainly sounds audacious, but not hopeful," said Clinton, in a play on the title of Obama's book, "The Audacity of Hope." "It's not hopeful and it's not what we should be talking about in this campaign," said Clinton, suggesting Obama was abandoning the core of his campaign. "I would certainly, through you, hope we could get back to talking about the issues, drawing the contrasts that are based in fact that have a connection to the American people," Clinton said.

And he's personally dismantling his whole phony "inspiration and light" routine.

When people see him for the run-of-the-mill politician he is, nothing he says will resound.

31. KO and guests were talking tonight about Edwards being afraid that Obama wasn't strong enough
To 'hit back' at the Republicans. Voila! Obama starts beating up on HC again.

Auditioning for Edwards? I dunno, but it really sounded like Obama wasn't doing it because he believed it, just that he thought it might impress Edwards.

9. "I hope we could get back to talking about the issues....."
Sen. Obama doesn't want to talk about the issues because he CAN'T talk about the issues as well as he can talk about HOPE and UNITY. Gosh, he can make people faint or cry with his spiel about hope.

But him speaking about anything of substance, like HOW he is going to bring about change - no dice!

18. I love the attacks
Obama is talking change and attacks Hillary in the next breath. Hillary is directly talking about Bush's blunders and how she can fix them. And, the MSM is already picking up on the "ATTACK TACTICS" and are airing them as a compare and contrast and I love it.

30. That's actually enough
considering its the old guard in the Dem party who loses elections and sides with the Rethugs most often...and it's old and outdated principles that hold sway in the Bush Reich.

Yup, I'd say Obama has it bang on there.

34. he did but he wanted to select from it carefully because it also said this

Obama drew more than 10,000 people to his speech at the University of Denver. They packed a hockey arena and crammed into two overflow rooms and still were lined up outside to get in. Colorado is a caucus state, one of 22 to hold nominating contests Tuesday, and is one of a handful of states where the Obama campaign is predicting victory. Clinton has the advantage in several others, while several are still up for grabs.

46. FWIW
The Colorado caucus is, as you said, a nominating caucus - it just puts names on the ballot for the primary. It's essentially meaningless, though I'm sure an Obama victory will be touted as a great victory.

------------

How meaningless? In 2004 Mike Miles won the Democratic caucus over Ken Salazar for US Senate, only to be defeated in the actual primary by an over three to one margin.
