GayWired.com: "Endorsement: Hillary Clinton"
More evidence that Obama's buddy McClurkin is not making him any friends:

GayWired Media Democratic Endorsement: Hillary Clinton
Article Date: 01/31/2008

“Change” is not just in the air and on the lips of each of the candidates—it’s inevitable. For the first time in a generation, the American people have a clear opportunity to change the direction of a country—voters haven’t felt this call to arms since JFK. The decision to throw our voice behind a particular democratic candidate was not arrived at lightly. With two front runners whose positions on the issues nearly mirror each other, whether we elect the woman or the African-American, we are confident that the democratic nominee will represent the voice of the LGBT community. One candidate has the edge, and as our thoughts turned to leadership and experience, it became evident the most qualified was the one who had done time in the trenches, fighting, as Hillary Clinton once quipped, “liars and cheaters”—and the “vast right-wing conspiracy.”

As LGBT people fighting for the right to marry—the right to a legal recognition of partnership—no one knows better what Hillary Clinton has faced in her fight to be treated as her husband’s equal. With the exception of Eleanor Roosevelt, the First Lady’s position was always that of loyal “spouse” whose job it was to smile, nod and support her husband. Hillary Clinton was the first woman to step into the role of first lady ready to fight in a public forum… for better or worse, and as anyone who read headlines during her eight years in the White House knows, the press and the right-wing made her fight tooth and nail for the respect she earned....

Clinton and Obama were both early frontrunners for the LGBT vote—though neither support marriage equality on record, both support civil unions, support a repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and have a history of supporting LGBT issues. But whereas Clinton’s support of LGBT issues is consistent—in her autobiography Living History, she calls “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” a terrible “compromise” of her husband’s presidency—we get the sense much of Obama’s support is merely PR. The omission of the word gay from his South Carolina victory speech and refusal to remove openly homophobic gospel singer Donnie McClurkin from a performing engagement on his campaign trail further support those fears. For two candidates so clearly alike in policy, Clinton holds the ace—experience, something all the sound-bytes, photo ops and celebrity endorsements in the world can’t buy.

9. See, he wants it both ways...pander to gays when the audience is
friendly, pander to bigots when he needs those SC votes. As a rule, you can't trust most politicians, but my money's on Hilary to do the right thing more often.

16. That's BS. He directly confronted the bigots when speaking at MLK's church
He drew widespread praise for it throughout the gay community for saying to the black community:
"We have scorned our gay brothers and sisters instead of embracing them"

Except of course for gaywired.com, which appears to have written a whole article about his speech without mentioning it. And now they write this endorsement, ignoring it as well.

21. Yeah, right...MLK's church is not exactly the same as some
evangelicals in SC...Coretta Scott King was very vocal in her support of gay rights, and so MLK's church reflects that...he was preachign to the choir sweetie...I'm glad he said it, but it wasn't exactly courageous.

2. Gay wasn't in the SC speech, but
it was in the post-Ted Kennedy endorsement speech. That being said, having this McClurkin fellow was a mistake.

11. That's bullshit. He even had the courage to criticize the black community on their treatment of gays
On the EVE of the South Carolina primary. In a black church or all places. This is something that Hillary would never have the political courage to do.

8. Kennedy said, "If it's right, it works."
He said that there are those who believe that if it works, then it's right. But that he's on the side of those who believe if it's right, it works.

Well, it isn't right that McClurkin and Caldwell (is that the name), attach themselves to Barack's campaign and send their dog whistles to the anti-GLBT people, but Barack keeps them at arm's length so he can wax eloquent about "embracing" gays, as if to say, "I'm not like them."

Yes, you are, Barack. You want to have your anti-gay cake and eat it, too. It isn't right, but it's working for you so far. Very few people outside the GLBT community are even aware of how slick you're playing this.

Good for gaywired, calling it as they see it.

I'm outta here, for now.

10. I'm Taking a Good Hard Look at Ron Paul Now, GayWired's Other Endorsement...
... recipient.

I'll kick the tires on the HRC campaign again, too, now that I know that GayWired has finally come down from the mount with the hash leaves fully read.

I wanna make sure that you didn't strain/sprain anything by making the mighty leap from my wry observation to Obama being a homophobe.

You ok dude?

Not sure it means anything, but I do understand why it was posted. Obama people jump over any endorsement they find too, no matter how obscure.
