This isn't a civil war
Seriously, you got posts by the lady saying "I WANT SOMEONE WHO WILL KICK SOME REPUBLICAN ASS OMG IM SO TOUGH RAWR FUCK FUCK I CAN SAY FUCK." You have people hating Republicans and this and that.

Yes, Republicans have fucked up this country.

Yes, most of us disagree with most of the Republicans beliefs.

But guess what? The majority of Republicans want what they think are best for our country. You might not agree with their opinion on what is best, but they do want what is best. As Americans, they deserve to have their voices heard. Those cities and states that elected Republicans deserve to have their voices heard.

All this talk about kicking republican ass and not working to bring repubs and democrats together is ridiculous. We should WANT a leader who members of every party can get behind and support, either based on his or her personality or his/her beliefs.

The enemy is NOT the republicans. The enemy is the corporations. The enemy is the insurance companies. The enemy is Al Qaeda. The enemy is the problems with the economy.

It's sickening to me when I see people make personal attacks against and revel in the fact that someone like Reagan is dead. Perhaps you don't agree with his policies, but there is no reason for the pure hatred.

Hating people because they have different beliefs reeks of immaturity and ignorance. We are all Americans and we deserve a leader who will listen to everyone and reach out to everyone, not childishly exclude them.

And I'm sure someone will turn around and say "We hate them because of what they did to the country!" That's bogus. The people who fucked up the country have names - Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld among others.

But just because some Republicans are fuckups doesn't mean all should be punished. It's the same mentality that people who hate muslims have because a few muslims like to blow shit up.

Grow up people.

You loathe all Republicans? Why? Do you know all Republicans? Are all Republicans as power hungry and stupid as the current administration?

Didn't think so.

Take a look at Bobby Jindal. You may not agree with the guy, but how can you hate him? He is one of the most likable politicians out there. He is going to be the Republican Obama in 2016.

15. Jindal is a right wing fundamentalist Christian extemist.
He's just one of the many horrible Republicans who deserved to be loathed.

4. Actually, Sir, It Pretty Much Is, And Always Is
"An election differs from a civil war only as the bloodless surrender of a force outnumbered in the field differs from Waterloo."

6. Sure, an election could be seen as...
A bloodless civil war.

I'm talking more about those people who are voting for a candidate for no other reason than that candidate will be really really mean to Republicans and steal their candy.

Seriously, you will have to forgive some of us on the left for not wanting to be doormats any longer, its been a rough 8 years and we intend to correct the course now.

7. There is a difference
...between correcting the course and excluding Americans.

Like it or not, the amount of Dems and Republicans in this country is pretty much split right down the middle. About an equal number on both sides.

And no matter whose candidate is elected, all deserve to have their voices heard and all should be respected.

Really?

Please direct me to the source of that information. I had a different impression entirely. Any link to current poll results that support this claim would be most appreciated. :)

17. Here you go
204 million eligible voters (age 18 or older)
63 million registered Democrats
47 million registered Republicans
32 million registered as independents or with minor party
62 million not registered

It's not totally even, but it's close. Either way, people seem to want to totally ignore 47 million people. How is that far?

18. just because someone is new, doesn't mean they don't have
anything worthwhile to say.

And just because it isn't something you want to hear doesn't mean it doesn't need to be said.

We all need to grow up.

What is the alternative?

peace~

29. I guess it's perspective- I didn't see
this as a lecture on DU's failings, but rather a call for each one of us as individuals to ask ourselves to look beyond stereotypes or "labels" and make sure we don't fall into the "abyss".

All trolls aren't evil- without them we'd need a new category of DUer- 'cause we always have to have someone to be against.

peace~

11. It's useless flailing
I'm pretty pissed off at all of them. Yeah, our guys too. To be totally honest, I hate all lawyering, legislating, schmoozing, gladhanding, fast-talking, wheeling-dealing, backroom types. The political system we have promotes mostly odious people. There is a great dearth of character at all levels of elected government.

I used to want to just blow it all up--the court system in particular. But now I've realized that we're stuck with it, and the alternative, a big blowout where we all vent our violent frustrations, is useless.

Fighting among politicians is a metaphor. They are not fighting against each other. If anything, they are on each other's side, against us. I would like to see someone come forward and say honestly, we have been operating by consensus and the consensus has been wrong for America, wrong for the world. Partisanship is just a dumbshow for the political junkies who might otherwise put their energies behind exposing the corruption of the system.

you fool- you are asking
us to actually BE HUMAN BEINGS- not just mouthpieces for hate, partisanship and mob-rule.

I don't embrace the Democratic Party Ideals because "we" are the "good-guys". There are many Dem's who have done some pretty terrible things. There are Rep's who have done some pretty good things.

We are not born into a political party. we are born human. when we die, our political party shouldn't matter shit.

Reading this board, watching the media spin this into money, power and prejudice wars, makes me sometimes think that global warming isn't going to come soon enough.

We are going to have to learn to work together if we don't want things to get even worse than they are now.

Thank you for this great post- I think you are going to get flamed to death for it- but I admire you for speaking up anyway.

peace~

13. Something like: "most intolerant people vote republican" but most
republicans are not intolerant" Something like that. I base this on the past vote for many republicans who pushed intolerance toward gays (the gay marriage legislation) pushed at the general election to fire up the base. I know lots of republicans who agree with me, a few in my own family. No offense, but I would still like to kick their ass for their intolerance and for a few other things that I won't take time to write here.

Under a rock waiting for Obama the Messiah, I presume?

They, meaning the elected repukes the next president will have to deal with, will rip off your head and shit down your neck and laugh at you if you come to them with open arms and talk of "working together".

Honestly, it's like some people here have collective amnesia.

16. Ah yes
And gang members would kill you if given the chance. So we should all just drive around killing gang members before they kill us.

An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

By doing to them what they do to us, how are we better than them?

Won't they look at it and say "See what they did to us for 8 years? TIME FOR PAYBACK!"

Where does it stop?

They fucked up and not just slightly...everyone you name as enemies they embraced as either their Gods or their strawmen.Reagan???Fuck him to hell.I hope the Devil forces anal sex on him each day and I pray that in the afterlife his mind is clear. I am grateful that you refer to "pure hatred" since so few here recognize it.I've got it and he deserves it.Do you remember when after their daughter was abducted by terrorists the Hearsts were compelled to donate food to the homeless? I do-the Governor of the state, Ronald Reagan, said it would be a good time for an outbreak of botulism-got that-didn't help, could have stood mute, but instead wished possibly fatal food poisoning on those who were hungry. He came to office after his campaign committed treason in the October surprise.Jeepers, let me reconsider this....Okay, I want the devil to coat his dick with carborumdum and to give the porno performance of his life...
We know who the enemies are-and it is NOT corporations-it is those (republicans) who gave them human rights without human responsibilities.
The part that IS true is that they have fucked up in the Mother of all fuck ups.We need them like a fish needs a bicycle.Your posting is garbage-as fucked as this country is tomorrow we could endorse Marx,Karl and as long as he promised not to be a Republican, he could be elected...

So surprise and get bent...

On Edit:I spelled an abrasive wrong...

People will replace real dialogue and debate for demagoguery faster than you can blink an eye. Though I still like it, DU is still full of partisan hackery.
