Let's examine the presidents I have had in my lifetime
1. Richard Nixon. 'nuff said.
2. Gerald Ford. Who?
3. Jimmy Carter. Wonderful person, not such a great president.
4. Ronald Reagan. Giant dick.
5. George Bush I. Father of an even bigger dick, and a pretty respectable dick himself.
6. Bill Clinton. Oh gee, finally a Democrat who can do a decent job. Too bad about NAFTA, DLC, expanded death penalty, Marc Rich, etc. etc. etc.
7. George Bush. The biggest dick of them all.

Finally I have a chance to have a president who I believe can truly lead this country into the future. There is electricity in the air, and people can feel that we're on the brink of change. Barack Obama's appeal extends not just to liberals and progressives, but to centrists and even some republicans who have become disenchanted with the excesses of their party.

I know there are those out there who will scoff at this post, and you are entitled to your own opinions. But to those who say this is all fantasy, to the naysayers and skeptics, to all of those who would surrender to politics as usual rather than grasp at the hope of change, and to all those who say we can't change the future, I say:

YES WE CAN!

21. What evidence do you have that Obama did anything wrong with Rezko?
Oh, I forgot. Shillbots don't need evidence. Every claim of theirs has to be the complete truth. :eyes:

18. Fix this country, my dear.
The next president will need help from everyone in this country to tackle the mess Bush made. I'm on board with Obama as so many around this country are. Having good, sound policies are part of the solution; the other part is bringing people together, even if they aren't all Democrats, to implement them.

25. Working to do WHAT change?
What jobs does he plan for you to do after you put him in office? Has he mentioned? Or has he just told you to HOPE and have FAITH and BELIEF.

He needs millions of votes. What does he need you for after that?

Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 12:32 AM by hiaasenrocks
You seem so certain in your post. That's interesting because of your sig line: "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." - Bertrand Russell

And just in case this post generates responses about Hillary, I'm not voting for her.

13. Look around you at everything that's wrong, and that could be changed just if people cared
It's easy to see what we need/want to change. I don't need to tell you this, the world is filled with injustice, places that need our attention.

There is no limit to how much we can change, no limit to how much time and effort is needed.

16. What's the substance?
Anyone can say they're for change. Anyone can say we can do better. Anyone can say the world needs more people to care. Anyone can say there's injustice.

I want to know how the candidate is going to do that -- not through words, because words are cheap, but through action.

And what exactly are we going to do around this world? At what cost? What's the plan??

29. So "YES WE CAN!" is really more like "MAYBE WE CAN TRY?"
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 12:51 AM by hiaasenrocks
All I hear are slogans and people saying "read his website" but no one, including Obama, is willing to explain how the positions on the site are put into actual action.

There's really no substance, is there?

I think Hillary is a complete phony, but Obama is actually a little more scary because he's got people whipped up into this frenzy and I can't find a single one who can talk about serious policy implementation without reverting to chants and slogans they learned at a rally or from watching on C-SPAN. Like http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4360337&mesg_id=4360720">this. Don't you see that that means nothing? Come on.

Oh well.

30. I should amend that - I am certain of ONE thing
and that is, if you don't try, you'll never achieve anything. Cynicism and doubt never get anything accomplished. Optimism and hope are what drives progress.

Bill Clinton was the first president to make torture an official US policy, through "extraordinary rendition" (outsourced torture).

15. Yes. We. Can.
The dream - the hope - is that TOGETHER, we can make a change for tomorrow. If we keep working against each other, we'll accomplish nothing. We don't have to compromise who we are or what we believe in to work together to overcome the nightmare that we live in today. We just have to believe that together it can be done.

20. Do you see a pattern here?
It's 2 to 1 Republican presidents in office over Democrats. Now why is that?

I can tell you why, democrats tend to have a lower turnout then the republicans.

However, this year since we have a woman and a minority running the turnout is the largest in US History.

Enough of Bush/Clinton. You can trace the downfall of this country directly to the 1980 election. If we don't get rid of these people now, we probably never will.
