We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.

Dumbledore was a brilliant man.

If you've read any of the Harry Potter books you know they include politics and philosophy in general. Does this belong in this forum? I don't know, but I've seen far too much blood here lately.

"Ah, Harry, how often this happens, even between the best of friends! Each of us believes that what he has to say is much more important than anything the other might have to contribute!"

"Voldemort himself created his own worst enemy, just as tyrants everywhere do! Have you any idea how much tyrants fear the people they oppress?"

"I seem to remember telling you both that I would have to expel you if you broke any more school rules," said Dumbledore. Ron opened his mouth in horror. "Which goes to show that the best of us must sometimes eat our words."

"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."

"You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be."

"There are all kinds of courage. It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends."

"It is important to fight, and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated."

"We must try not to sink beneath our anguish, Harry, but battle on."

It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well. ~J.K. Rowling, "King's Cross," Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, 2007, spoken by the character Albus Dumbledore

The truth is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with caution.

If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals. ~J.K. Rowling, "Padfoot Returns," Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, 2000, spoken by the character Sirius Black

The consequences of our actions are so complicated, so diverse, that predicting the future is a very difficult business indeed.

If you're holding out for universal popularity, I'm afraid you will be in this cabin for a very long time.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Spoken by Albus Dumbledore.

We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. Lord Voldemort's gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing an equally strong bond of friendship and trust. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.

2. We are only as rich as the poorest of the poor
only as free as a padlocked prison door
only as strong as our love for this land
only as tall as we stand

This is a land filled with power and glory
beauty that words cannot recall

But her power shall rest on the strengh of her freedom
and glory will rest on us all.

Phil Ochs

(as long as we're quoting)
