Clinton seizes on a media remark because it's all she has left
Her campaign made a public spectacle of being low on funds. They insist that delegates must be seated from a pair of elections that the public was told were not real elections, and weren't going to count. The analysis and CW was that Clinton would lose a majority of the upcoming contests. Trouble in Hillaryland....

Then, like a gift from heaven, Shuster says a stupid remark to her, that she immediately leaps on for all it's worth, in a cynical attempt to whip up support from mothers. "YOU INSULTED MY DAUGHTER! YOU INSULTED MOTHERHOOD! (vote for me please)"

Guess what that would be?

Oh, yes.... pimping Chelsea.

I have more respect for mothers than to think they would be swayed by such cynical tactics. Defending your adult child is one thing. Making a federal case out of it to elicit sympathy votes is another.

8. The issue isn't "standing by" or not
The issue is knowing when to accept the apology and let it drop, rather than continue to rage and storm about it to get pity votes.

29. I just find it pathetic
My very first political campaign was when I was 15, and my parents managed the candidate's campaign. They got attacked in the press, as did I when I attended a debate, and it was much along the same line as this -- that they were "using their kid." Later we were all three called liars, by name, in a separate incident, and their parenting abilities were publicly questioned by the opponent. It was nasty, vitriolic, and dirty...

...and I would have thought less of them if they used the press and opposition's attacks to garner sympathy votes. THAT would have been using me. Instead I told them I took it as a badge of honor to be singled out in this way, and they didn't pursue it.

All three of my preferred candidates opted out or dropped out. Now it's left me being "ABH" as so many DUers in 2004 were "ABB." I know I have a destructive, rather than constructive aim... but that carries over to the Anyone But Bushies too, doesn't it.

He didn't make the statement.

Although Shuster had a crude way of saying it (I would not have chosen those words), in a way he's making a point.

When Hillary was up by 20 points, Chelsea was AWOL. Now that mommy is in trouble, you see Chelsea in the public spotlight. She's fair game to be honest.

this 'poor me!' crap impresses nobody other than those who already hillary supporters imo and was a calculated attempt to paint any criticism of her as offensive. it seems to me such a ploy shows how desperate her campaign has become.

35. Then I am glad you are not my parent
I've been in the position of being attacked by a (local) media talking head, and it happened when I was a minor. 15, to be precise. My folks were not hyperactive hover parents and they were not inclined toward cynically whipping up outrage over it.

Also, I'm anti-Hillary, not pro-Obama.

What Shuster did was make a metaphor. A poor one, a tasteless one.

Slander would be if he had broadcast a show accusing Chelsea of prostitution. Like, as it is defined in the law.

47. Well of course I do silly, I further understand this to be a litigious soceity...
wherein ham sammich's, and unkempt dry cleaned slacks are the subject of multi million dollar law suits. You are clearly able to call it whatever you will. But you will not obtain that added perceptive until it has happened to you...

And it has happened to me, I prevailed, and it did not require an FCC sanctioned, broadcast single to make it so. That contention alone is just plain silly.
