Bush Meets $170 Million Fundraising Goal; Kerry Donations Surge
President George W. Bush passed his goal of raising a record $170 million for his re-election campaign, while challenger John Kerry raised more money in one month than any Democratic candidate in history. Bush raised at least $12 million this month through March 17, bringing the total for his re-election bid to $171.4 million, according to his campaign Web site. Kerry raised at least $20 million in March through yesterday, breaking the one- month record for a Democratic candidate of $8.4 million that he set in February, according to campaign announcements.

<snip>

``Democratic crocodile tears about `no money' are about as phony as Martha Stewart's defense claims,'' said Larry Sabato, Director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. No other Democratic presidential candidate has ever raised more than Kerry has. The most money raised through donations by any presidential candidate prior to this year's election cycle was set by Bush in 2000, who collected $94.5 million. Kerry will be helped by the Democratic National Committee, which will have $25 million in cash at month's end, DNC chairman Terry McAuliffe said yesterday. The committee raised $11 million at a ``unity dinner'' last night at Washington's National Building Museum featuring Kerry; his former challengers in the primary, Howard Dean and John Edwards; presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter; and former Texas Governor Ann Richards.

<snip>

Kerry is helped by groups working outside of the party system, such as the Media Fund and America Coming Together, which are airing anti-Bush TV advertisements and registering voters in states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida. Such groups, funded in part by at least $6.5 million in donations by billionaire hedge-fund manager George Soros, have raised at least $32 million. Republicans have few such groups.

``We have not had a Republican George Soros step forward,'' said David Bossie, president of Citizens United, a Republican group supporting Bush's re-election by running television advertisements. ``We haven't had anyone give us a six figure check let alone a seven figure check.''

1. Democratic crocodile tears?
WHO'S been crying? YOU'RE the ones who's been planting psy-op stories in the media about the tons and tons of money that Bush has in the hopes of implying that the race is already over! Why don't you just admit that your worst nightmare has come true?

4. I love the media hype about Bush's money.....
We're getting a nice under dog/little guy vibe going as a result of it. Having the most money can be a hinderance.

Steve Largent ran for and lost the 2002 governor's race in my home state to a little known state senator in part because people got sick of his fucking ads everywhere they looked.

2. David Bossie is deceptive.
``We have not had a Republican George Soros step forward,'' said David Bossie, president of Citizens United, a Republican group supporting Bush's re-election by running television advertisements. ``We haven't had anyone give us a six figure check let alone a seven figure check.''

How much has Richard Mellon Scaife given to tear down democracy and Democrats? The last figure I saw was about TWO HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS.

3. Bossie's whining is so phony and Sabato should earn extra points for
his clever reciprocating smear of Dems and Martha Stewart.

Bossie's whine is phony: :nopity: It may be factual that no R has written ONE six or seven figure check, but the RNC 'bundles' it's donations so big money contributors can spread their donation across many bundles.

Arithmetic, which Bill Clinton introduced to D.C., would be a useful way for Bossie to figure out his big-bucks contributors. Add-it-up, David Bossie.

he may not have soros, but he sure as hell has murdoch and all the corporations behind him.

these people are ill-equipped to handle a situation unless it is COMPLETELY stacked in their favor. and they claim democrats are whiny. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha that's as funny as bush being a yale graduate.
