Time for Liberal Democrats to STOP attacking the Party - WE need you ...
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 01:06 PM by Trajan
Its time to get aboard little buds and budlets ...

I dont think that a perfect 'liberal' exists ...

I dont think there are two Democrats, of ANY type, who have IDENTICAL philosophies across the board ... To demand adherence to extreme positions, at the risk of 'losing your vote', is simply unrealistic and counterproductive ... The bell curve is highest in the center ...

We HAVE an enemy: ... and they are Bush and the GOP ...

To send them packing: we NEED ALL Democrats aboard .. even IF they arent completely and utterly happy about EVERY aspect of the perceived Kerry platform ...

Stop looking for perfection and complaining when it isnt found: .. and JUMP aboard the train that is gonna MOW DOWN the GOP ....

We can always fight later ...

edit: dele 'whining'

1. I respect your feelings, but I think it is helpful for people to vent.
It's better to have a place like this for people to vent than to force everyone to pretend to be happy and then have their frustration and anger build to the point where people stay home or cast a protest vote on election day.

Let folks who are angry and disappointed in the Democratic Party and its leadership and its candidates express their concerns, and their suggestions for change, here. Let everyone's voice be heard.

On election day, I have faith that people will vote their conscience, which I hope will be to cast their vote for the Democratic nominee (no matter how imperfect) and kick W out of the White House.

2. That "Stop whining" bit works really really well. "Buds and Budlets" cute.
The "buds and budlets" is really cute as well.

I will vote for Kerry, but these posts are not going to win many hearts of those who are conflicted.

3. "Stop whining"
If this is truly a call for unity and coopration, you might want to edit that part. :)

4. I don't believe that opposing PNAC global fascim (even in a new wrapper)..
qualifies as "adherence to extreme positions". And I will not accept endorsement of this agenda from the Democratic party.

7. how about this for another point of view?

I realize there is much disappointment and frustration out there. I have my own. But lets all channel our frustrations against bush and the GOP and work together at getting rid of the BFEE.

edit to add: I truly believe that the fringe left is the heart and soul of the party. I think the fear is that the fringe voice is not being heard. But if it makes it any easier, I think now, more than ever, the ideals of the left are appreciated because of the stark contrast to bush. We SEE the danger. You'd have to be actively oblivious not see the danger and polarization in this country.

It's just the timing that is questionable. It's time to TRIAGE. We are fighting the fight of ALL our lives. If we don't win, we lose EVERYTHING. There is no room for ideals in a fascist theocracy.

Things ARE different. This is not the election of the 80's or 90's where we still had a media that held officials accountable. the 2000 election was evident of that. I know we are all skeptical. But unless we do something productive with that skepticism, it becomes toxic. But never has there been an urgency as now. The neo conservatives have upped the ante. Our existence as we know it, will forever change if we do not rise above our fears, pessimism, and cynism.

I applaude Kucinich for standing up and advocating ideas that are unpopular with mainstream america. That is why I supported Dean and am a member of the 21st century democrats because I want change. But there is a time and place for everything.

I do think it is time that DK throws in his support to Kerry because JK is the party's nominee despite not having the convention yet. It is a technicality that we should not limit ourselves to. Life is not black and white. We know DK's issues and concerns. DK has had a platform to well articulate it during the primaries already--as it was the place to do so.

Primaries are done now. It's time to move to phase 2 because the GOP has moved to address it. It would be irresponsible of the democratic party to sit idly by to get assasinated while arguing about issues. We have to not only fight the GOP, but its media monopoly as well.

Ultimately, we need to win the presidential election FIRST so that we CAN do something about making the ideals come to fruition.

8. The primaries are not done
Oregon and several other states have not yet voted. With DK still in the race, Oregonians who are so inclined can cast a vote for universal health care, a peace-oriented foreign policy, and a pro-worker economy without damaging John Kerry.

I did so by voting for "the other guy" in every Oregon primary, since I was angry at having the nomination decided before I even had a chance to voice my opinion. I've said it several times, but in 1988, 39% of Oregonians went for Jesse Jackson in the primaries. (So much for the idea that Dukakis was the darling of the far left.)
