Kucinich gets Backbone Award
http://www.kucinich.us/backboneaward.php

Dennis Kucinich: "Thank you, thank you very much, thank you and this is truly a spine tingling moment. Thank you, thank you. And you know what? This is a campaign where all of us have determined that we're going to take a stand. Where each one of us has shown they have an ability and a willingness to take a stand when others decide that they can't stand no more. And so we shall not be moved. We will continue to stand. And we will continue to get our message out. A message of peace. A message of optimism. A message of hope. A message of social and economic justice. A message of education for all, and health care for all, and jobs for all, and retirement security for all. So, let's move forward, and let's party!"

2. Check out this comic on the subject of his backbone
http://mhull.rupa.com/TomNGeo50.pdf

In episode 49 , Bully George had Daschle and Kennedy locked in Daschle's office. In episode 50, Tom is trying as hard as he can and he can't open the door. In the last frame, Dennis has ripped the door off the hinges and says, "It's easy to open doors when you have a backbone."

3. Awesome cartoon!
Hey, did you hear Daschle is being challenged in the SD primary? I heard a story on MN Public Radio earlier today, but I didn't catch the name.

IMHO, Tom better watch his sorry, accomodating ass. He may be a veteran Senator, but he's a little vulnerable this year.

5. Only a fool seeks to end imperilism...
Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 09:24 PM by flaminbats
only a fool thinks all workers should have healthcare, only a fool would support Instant Runoff Voting, only a fool thinks we spend too little on the military, only a fool would want higher voter participation, only a fool opposes unfunded mandates, and only a fool believes all spending must be paid for!

Does that make us all fools?

7. Well, since you have no chance, yeah.
Maybe Kucinich can be Nader's running mate. They can both prattle on about what they would do IF they were elected. This is a totally safe enterprise, since they will never be asked by the people to back up their claims with action.

There's a word for such making grand sounding claims that are 100% of not ever being tested: Cowardice.

13. Kucinich did fine
considering how the media handled him and fact he runs a no ad campaign since he does not sell out for corporate campaign contriubtions. As to his running...His volunteers will not stand for it..No one else is good enough on the issues... We anty up cash regardless of how many dollars the others raise to keep DK's issues before the electorate.
We might have to compromise after Boston, but not until..Kerry wants our energy he will have to have a plan to save US jobs that is credible and a health care plan that works..
And still, we will have to hold our noses over his timidity to have backbone over his support of the Bush corporate grab in Iraq.

15. Cowardice?
How dare you?

COURAGE is what it takes for someone with his ideals has to have in order to stand up for what's RIGHT, DESPITE the fact that your own PEERS ridicule you.

I'm glad I don't have to vote for Democrats.

REALLY EFFING GLAD!

THIS IS SICKENING!

Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 09:42 PM by zulchzulu
Thanks for not being a part of uniting the Democratic party, Dennis.

No award needed.

If Dennis had a backbone, he would face reality and see that his campaign was a failure. But no, he wants a vanity campaign.

Frankly, he's irrelevant. I've met former Kucinich fans who have no idea what the hell he is still doing in the race.

9. That's a little harsh. I appreciate and applaud what Mr Kucinich
has done and will do for our party. He is forcing us to take a long hard look at right versus wrong. We have something called the Democratic process here in America... that's why Dennis is still in the race. And no, I'm not a Kucinich supporter, but I do support his ideals. :hi:

11. I agree with you, MrsGrumpy
I don't understand those who get so irritated that Dennis is still in the race; he's hardly ever covered by the media, so it's not as if he's being 'distracting'.

He's out there, on the ground asking people to vote for the issues he stands for, not necessarily just the man himself. That's one thing I admire about Dennis Kucinich is that his candidacy has always been about issues, not some ego trip. He's the complete OPPOSITE of Nader in that sense.

And, once the convention is over, he'll be behind Kerry and talking about party unity from July to November and that's when his voice will be the most helpful anyways!

And, I'm not a Kucinich supporter either, for the record. :)

10. I guess it's a good thing
they didn't ask you who to give their award to then, isn't it? ;-)

Frankly, I haven't met a single fellow kucitizen who doesn't understand why he is still in the race. It's some of the other democrats who just don't "get it." But that's ok; the light will dawn eventually. :hi:

The arrogance and ignorance of some of the posts on this thread tells me I should just stay off this board.

17. You're welcome.
I'm spending less time here these days, which is actually a good thing. It means I'm getting some of life taken care of.

Really, for me, there isn't much point to dropping in on primary '04, except to keep the message moving to the convention. I hope there are enough dems out there that want things like universal health care, social & economic justice, civil rights, etc., to make a difference at the convention. If Dennis has the backbone to stay the course, so do I.

19. I've made the same decision, snoochie
DU *Used* to be for Dems who were tired of the centrist drift, which got our party into trouble.

Now, there's no room for anyone but centrists and conservative Dems.

Even the grace of tolerance has flown the coop.

Guess we need to find ourselves a new venue, where progressives are once again welcome.

What a deal.

22. No, didn't see that!
I hardly check in here anymore... not exactly friendly territory... so I missed it. Thanks for pointing that out!

You've accomplished a lot!

ONe question... were you able to find neighbors ahead of time, and work out a plan, or did you just go into it a single agent, and work all this magic? I'm asking because where I live, there aren't the sorts of people one can plan ahead with.

I've been thinking a lot about the Dept of Peace, but from a different angle. Certainly wouldn't be popular here.
