FU American Legion ... you'll never see my dues again
Edited on Fri Feb-29-08 08:11 PM by thunder rising
I am so tired of the OLD guard of the American Legion constantly singing the Republican "kill them all" memes. These asshats have no morals, and their "patriotism" is actually in question. They still uphold Bush and the Iraq war. But tonight it's the constitutional amendment against flag desecration.

I am a veteran and one of the principles this country stands for is freedom of speech. If someone has spent his/her own money on a flag and decides to burn it ... it's their flag. And, if you don't like it, that's your problem.

2. Cheers to you teammate
And their "leader" is a "Vietnam Vet" who spent his time in the Army at Fort Dix New Jersey. As long as they and the VFW keep giving the likes of bush standing ovations they ain't getting a penny from this military retiree.

5. both organizations have outlived their usefulness;

The Legion does little more than give the 80's something crowd a social hall. The VFW sill does two things for a vet, it will give you a decent burial, and gives the town drunk a cheap place to drink. To my experience, those who wave the flag the hardest, did the least. Anyone who has "seen the elephant" doesn't want to see it again, unless it is absolutely necessary. Hat's off to you Bosshog, I'm proud to be of the same Navy as you ( even thought I'm an "Airdale")...Monkey meat and San Miguel for the chief.

7. May be, may be not
The post that I am a member of does several hundred hours of volunteer work at the local VA hospital every year. They also lend assistance to vets that are having problems with their VA benefits. Not stellar stuff, but it does help some of those folks that can use the help.

3. An Alternative - Veterans For Peace
You should consider a veterans organization that works for peace.

You'll feel much better hanging out with this fine group of folks. I know I do.

10. Do they sell cheap beer? That's all I ever wanted from them.
I tend to get into arguments. One VFW eligible member took notice that my qualification was due to my first 6 months in service was the last 6 months of the Vietnam period (hence, never in country). After many a minute of diatribe which he proudly stated (pointing) "I took one here and here and you think you should be in my club." Response, "Any moron can get shot. I going to drink my beer now."

4. Don't you just love these bozo's
that stick a thousand flags in the ground to display their love of country and the wind and rain or just the bozo's neglect of checking on thier display, some of them have fallen over and end up laying there on the ground just like any other trash dimwits toss out? I've seen it happen a million times.

8. You know, I don't think that they do...
I think that a lot of them just want to somehow relive the "glory years" before they were civilians again....and they seem to think that blind loyalty to any war will give them that.

Sad for sure.
