DU, THIS IS URGENT
Hi everyone.

While we sit here at our computers typing away, fighting over which Democrat is the best, there is a real fight going on in Iraq. A war that never should have been waged, a war that has cost thousands and thousands of lives. Not to mention our economy has spiraled out of control, because it was left unchecked, because the war was more important than the American people.

I know we are not going to agree on everything regarding the Candidates, and that is normal. No candidate is perfect, vote for who you feel comfortable with in the Primary. When it comes to having an actual nominee, it is highly important that we take our Country back from these war criminals who have had power for far too long. If you are here in DU, chances are you hold the values of the Democratic party very dear. Maybe not, maybe your here because you are disenchanted with the Republican party now, or as an Independent you have been outraged at the high jacking of our country. Whatever the reason, I think we can all agree on the war being the biggest blunder most of us can remember.

No matter who wins the nomination, I will be voting for a Democrat.

I saw something on this board, that brought it all home for me. I will have to say it is by far the best post I have ever seen on here. Please go here.....

2. Barack Obama will not “rule out” using private military companies
like Blackwater Worldwide in Iraq. Obama also has no plans to sign on to legislation that seeks to ban the use of these forces in US war zones by January 2009. Despite his antiwar rhetoric, Obama has adopted the congressional Democratic position that would leave open the option of keeping tens of thousands of US troops in Iraq for many years.

With our tax dollars, they could be used against us. Is he on drugs again or what?

That's how they influenced Justice Reinquist...he was a druggie just like Bush.

have not ruled it out either.

The PR firm run by Mark Penn, Hillary Clinton's top strategist, has a new client: Blackwater

Defense Industry Embraces Democrats, Hillary By Far The Favorite

The defense industry this year abandoned its decade-long commitment to the Republican Party, funneling the lion share of its contributions to Democratic presidential candidates, especially to Hillary Clinton who far out-paced all her competitors.

An examination of contributions of $500 or more, using the Huffington Post's Fundrace website, shows that employees of the top five arms makers - Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop-Grumman, Raytheon and General Dynamics -- gave Democratic presidential candidates $103,900, with only $86,800 going to Republicans.

Senator Clinton took in $52,600, more than half of the total going to all Democrats, and a figure equaling 60 percent of the sum going to the entire GOP field. Her closest competitor for defense industry money is former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R.), who raised $32,000.

Insofar as defense workers making political donations reflect the interests of their employers, the contributions clearly suggest that the arms industry has reach the conclusion that Democratic prospects for 2008 are very good indeed. Since their profits are so heavily dependent on government contracts, companies in this field want to be sure they do not have hostile relations with the White House.

Obama goes after Blackwater
Sen. Barack Obama charged today that a private security firm operating in Iraq has acted "with reckless disregard to Iraqi life," as he called his proposals to better monitor such contractors the toughest reforms offered by any candidate in the presidential race.

Although Obama has previously mentioned Blackwater USA, the Illinois Democrat drew greater attention to the firm's actions in an extended discussion on the University of Iowa's campus.

"Most contractors act as if the law doesn't apply to them," he said. "Under my plan, if contractors break the law, they will be prosecuted."

In announcing his "Security Contractor Accountability Plan," Obama said he would like to see greater transparency on contractor hiring and costs.

"I've proposed tougher government reforms than any other candidate in this race – reforms that would eliminate the kind of no-bid contracts that this administration has given to Blackwater," he said.

A new congressional report suggested Blackwater employees engaged in nearly 200 shootings in Iraq since 2005, with a vast majority cases being shootings from moving vehicles.

Obama said he would create an entire FBI unit that would be charged with investigating such incidents.

"Given the attention these scandals have generated we can no longer plead ignorance," Obama said.

4. We should also impeach Bush and Cheney
since they don't care how many die. We are all in more danger every day.

At least Senator Durbin (D-IL) got up yesterday and talked about the lies about Iraq.

:hi: And when the primaries are over, nothing is more urgent than the truth getting out for the people who are hungry for it.

OK folks, lots of good discussion. But check out this article.

This unlucky customer had both his legs and one arm blown off and he was burned over half his body. They got him home, but he developed an infection and his family requested they take him off life support.

That's the fucking nightmare of war. That's the bitter reality of where bullshit meets the pavement.

I salute him and dam the enablers.

21. I do wish we would just all come home to the USA and forget war
These endless wars are going to be our un-doing who ever is President. The whole country had better wake up soon. If the GOP think they are going to help with a man who has been educated in war along with his father and grand father they are as nuts as the Dem. who seem to forget just how many people are still working making these lov-er-ly weapons we all love so.

I don't 'just sit' at my computer.

I appreciate your sense of urgency.

I welcome you to MY sense of urgency.... it's not new to me.

Unfortunately, it's become all to familiar.

Trying to get pacifists and the "I don't care" groups motivated...

Welcome to DU and the Peace Coalition, KLee.

in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Haiti, Somalia, Israel, Syria, Iran, S. America...all those countries Bush screwed up with our tax dollars.

A hug for you. I know your pain. My brothers were in Vietnam and Korea. My one brother in was Korea near the border. He was given a gun and told to walk South as fast as he could during the Pueblo crisis.

Impeach the genocidal manics.

They lie us into wars for Empire. This has to stop before we pollute all the earth and start throwing around nuclear bombs. And then once they do leave office for whatever crime or reason...they join those secret groups to decide our fate. It is treason and we should just stop it.

29. As I just said on another thread......
Blind partisanship enshrouds us all in a dense fog which hides the real dangers facing our country.

A war started not by any act or resolution of Congress but by the deception of the President of the United States and NOTHING, I repeat NOTHING has been done about it.

Nothing!

It is all to easy for people to 'forget'- what is happening.

To dismiss the death, destruction and suffering.
