From my friend in east Texas
Jared came home from school yesterday telling me about the
mock elections they had in his 3rd grade class. He told me he voted for McCain, and that McCain won. Only 3 people voted for Obama (black students) and there were no votes for Hillary.

When I asked him why he voted for McCain, he said "because
Obama does not believe in God, and besides, he's a democrat and
Hillary is a democrat, and because McCain is a
republican."

When I asked why he thought being a republican was
important, he said " Because the democrats want to take away
our guns, they think we shouldn't defend ourselves, and republicans
think we should"

When I asked him who told him this, he said "Mrs. *********" (his teacher)

10. here is her reply
"I spent at least two hours trying to give him a bigger picture...
We talked about the war in Iraq, health care, freedom, the
right to make important decisions about our own lives, etc.

I told him republican/democrat isn't black and white...there are
grey areas, and it falls to the person, not the party. He started
writing some of what I was saying down...he intended to
go back to school today and share this with Mrs. *********.

This is tricky...such a small school...if he says too much, he'll
be marked in such a way that could have a negative impact.
Yet, I don't believe in mind control."

4. Time to have a little talk with the principal.
That is completely out of line on the teacher's part.

5. Have to get to the youth early, programming works, and I'll
bet most parents heartily approve. If they didn't, Mrs. ******* wouldn't be spewing so avidly.

8. you need to call that teacher out on that
that's bullshit. I had a similar conversation with my child yesterday but instead it was on Iraq and why the repubs want to stay and why the dems want to go. Her teacher didn't make the comparison clear, but I did.

9. Someone needs to take that up with the school administration
It is their job to teach the children history but not interfere with the minds. That ***** is brainwashing.

14. um...no
my reply was:

and Mrs. ********* was taught well by Karl Rove...worked in WV too.
Here, Rove came personally, told that Dems would take Bibles away, take guns and let gays marry.
hit 'em where it counts

13. hey.... i have kids in west texas. lol lol. i hear. been there and done that
with both kids. further, i had them in private christian school during 2004 election... oh lordy. heard it all.

it has been a wonderful growth and learning experience for my children. we have taken it and discussed it, thought about it and learned so mcuh from it. my kids at 10 and 13 are kick ass.

maybe a paper for sons to take to respective schools. picture of obama with hand on bible, hand on heart, snope address and youtube video of obama listening to nation athem without hand on heart. (didnt know it was required during song. did you?). anyway the kids in school yesterday was saying obama doesnt put hand on heart during pledge. my kids are politically active in school and challenges teachers

3rd grade oldest was asking christian teacher wasnt jesus black? and isnt my mom a christian? (i dont follow any of their rules). now 7th grade, he is exceptional. in ways i thank these people for these experiences that have opened us up to soooo much dialogue
