Front page of Daily Kos now: Clinton campaign makes Obama look blacker.
Clinton campaign making Obama "blacker"

Yep, it's been posted before. But now Kos himself has put it on the front page of his site and measured in on this.

As you can see, the campaign ad has darkened Obama's skin tone, while stretching the video horizontally to give Obama a wider nose.

Asked about this by Fox News, the Clinton campaign responded:

Despite the strong similarities between the ad on the DailyKos site and the original ad on Clinton’s Web site, Clinton spokesman Jay Carson said he spoke with the campaign’s chief ad maker, Mandy Grunwald, who said emphatically the ad on DailyKos "was not their ad."

"We don’t know what is up there, but it is not our ad," Carson said.

Yet as Troutnut notes, the ad is right here at Clinton's campaign website, so the Clinton campaign is clearly lying.

This story has legs. Video editing and graphics design people have been commenting on this, and agree that the darkening was in fact intentional, and not a technical glitch.

Race Man
by Sean Wilentz
How Barack Obama played the race card and blamed Hillary Clinton.
Post Date Wednesday, February 27, 2008

After several weeks of swooning, news reports are finally being filed about the gap between Senator Barack Obama's promises of a pure, soul-cleansing "new" politics and the calculated, deeply dishonest conduct of his actually-existing campaign. But it remains to be seen whether the latest ploy by the Obama camp--over allegations about the circulation of a photograph of Obama in ceremonial Somali dress--will be exposed by the press as the manipulative illusion that it is.

Most of the recent correctives have concerned outrageously deceptive advertisements approved and released by Obama's campaign. First, in Iowa, the Obama camp aired radio ads patterned on the notorious "Harry and Louise" Republican propaganda from 1993, charging falsely that Senator Hillary Clinton's health care proposal would "force those who cannot afford health insurance to buy it, punishing those who won't fall in line." In subsequent primary and caucus campaigns, the Obama campaign sent out millions of mailers, also featuring the "Harry and Louise" motif, falsely claiming that Clinton favored "punishing families who can't afford health care in the first place." A few bloggers and columnists, notably Paul Krugman in The New York Times, described the ads as distorting, but the national press corps mainly ignored them--until Clinton herself, seeing the fraudulent mailers reappear in Ohio over the past weekend, publicly denounced them.........

Funny, I thought it was Democratic party values to fight racism and bigotry wherever it is found...

I think Hillary needs to go on record and reject and denounce these tactics.

6. they are truly despicable human beings
trying to play to the "I'm a feared of black men" crowd. I can't WAIT till they drop the big bombs on their girl and she has to explain to the same bunch of Bible belters why it is that she is sleeping with a female staffer and who all these women are that have come forward with "I slept with Bill Clinton" words under their pictures and names. But just like the "why, is he EMBARRASSED to be black?" response we can expect and the "What's wrong with Hillary sleeping with women?" soon to follow-I say nothing, live and let live but just try and explain that to people in Alabama

7. They could release the binary file (finalcut or whatever) that would show..
exactly what the video editor used, raw video or darkened/stretched raw video.

These files don't just disappear into the ether, they can prove their innocence if they want to.

8. I hope we don't go there.
As a graphic designer and a computer graphics person, it is very difficult to know how darkening happens. My lap top always looks faded so I up the levels, and then I see it on the web on a different monitor and it is too dark. We all work on monitors which use light. As soon as it hits paper everything changes.

I think all the defense around "not being a muslim" is insulting to muslims and Barack knows it. Forcing him to do that over and over is an oppositional home run. Now if he starts a defense around " I am whiter than that" OMG how stupid is that.

Leave it alone if you really support Obama, if you don't you wont.

Read "How to Rig an Election" by a former GOP operative. A major trick is to accuse so you can get them denying. It is as good as the truth. Someone points this red herring at Obama people and hope they bring it up. It is bad for the Democrats either way. This whole thing stinks.

12. As a former video editing hardware technician
The capturing device would have to be set to extract the video wider and darker (which I highly doubt). The video wouldn't be darker on every single monitor that displays the picture side by side.

Even if the original “displaying” monitor was darker it wouldn’t make the picture actually darker and wider on every screen.

Kind of reminds me of Bush's "rats" ad and his trip to Bob Jones at the same time.

10. BO probably paid the person who did the picture to make himself look
like that. He'd stop at nothing to get attention.

Sounds pretty dumb huh? About as dumb and childish as some of the above posts.

11. Obamaniacs are vbecoming downright paranoid. Who stole the strawberries?
I should know better than to make allusions to a great old movie (also a book and a play) that most Obama supporters have never heard of, but from what I'm seeing lately, Captain Queeg has all the qualities necessary to make a great Obama campaign manager -- he's got tunnel-vision, he see's disloyalty everywhere, and he's paranoid as hell.
