http://hillnews.com/news/040704/cuellar.aspxMembers of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) believe and openly speculate that Laredo lawyer Henry Cuellar may switch to the Republican side if his recount victory in the Democratic primary survives legal challenges by Ciro Rodriguez (D-Texas).
The caucus’s worry stems, in part, from the political leanings of a bank president at the center of the recount controversy. The International Commerce Bank — where hundreds of absentee ballots were discovered that gave Cuellar victory — is run by Dennis Nixon, a well-known Republican fundraiser.
Rodriguez’s plea for donations puts House Democrats in yet another uncomfortable position as a result of Texas redistricting, forcing party leaders and rank-and-file lawmakers to choose between a well-liked colleague — who may be finished — and the man who is set to replace him.
Last Wednesday, the day the 304 Zapata ballots were discovered, Rodriguez began telling his fellow lawmakers that he will need roughly $100,000 to fund his legal challenge headed by pricey election-law attorney Buck Wood.
Start hoping that Rodriguez wins his legal challenge everybody.
