It's the Dishonesty, Hillary
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 10:58 PM by Stephanie

Pretending you never floated the idea of Obama as your VP?

Pretending you never supported NAFTA?

Pretending that Obama might possibly be a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHFREDHB-nQ">Muslim?

Pretending your vote in favor of the IWR was not a vote for war?

You must really think we're stupid.

BTW, where are your TAX RETURNS?

109. Actually they both said this during the debates
...this is nothing new, just another non-issue for Obama supporters to go bezerk over.

When does Obama start talking about policy? Thus far all he does is react to whatever Hillary says or does on any particular day, lately way out of context.

116. another non-issue
yeah right.

Hillary's losing like your IWR voting, bankruptcy bill voting candidate.

Dont' get me wrong, I once liked Edwards (back in 2004 when I had no choice) BUT seems to me that when he had power, he got it all wrong: IWR aye, Patriot Act aye, Bankruptcy Bill aye...

What made it worse, when I went to hear him speak here in SC in late 2006 (Tommorrow begins Today, Tomorrow Begins with You), he was asked about his poor record, and he hemmed, hawed, stumbled ... All indefensible, all apologies.

Well shit, apologies don't bring back the dead or undo all the destruction in Iraq and to our civil liberties here...

No thanks to any of them.

New blood and new party.

118. It is all about thin skin...
...and taking everything wildly out of context.

It is about Obama failing to define himself through his policies, which he rarely even discusses.

When your campaign is based on reacting to whatever the other side does, you hyper-react to every slight to make up for lack of substance.

This is the most thin skinned campaign in Democratic history.

128. Bullshit
Thin skinned? Look at HRC ... she's the one who HAD to resort to the kitchen sink because she couldn't win without being dirty!

Obama's just calling her on the absurdity, indeed audacity, of asking him, the primary leader, to take the second spot to HER.

Like Edwards and his votes, Hillary and her votes & campaign, YOU'RE JUST WRONG.

Fast Eddie is holding our young mayor here in Pittsburgh (Ravenstahl..28 years old) over a barrel. The construction on the new arena for the Penguins hasn't started yet... and Fast Eddie is holding a big chunk of the purse strings.

Mayor Ravenstahl, a superdelegate, WANTS to endorse Obama... but he's afraid to do so before Fast Eddie has signed the checks for the arena construction.

It's blackmail.... but at least for now, Ravenstahl is publicly staying "uncommitted" and saying the right things.

I don't think he'll endorse Hillary.... but if he does... you'll all know the reason why.

He said he was leaning Obama but he had a few reservations. Such as, he's heard Obama didn't know the words to the Pledge of Allegiance, and he wouldn't swear his oath of office on the Bible, and he's a Muslim. The interviewer said, that's actually not true. And the guy genuinely didn't know. He'd been duped.

42. I know you are right, and I keep reminding myself that Obama will win
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 08:28 AM by powergirl
but after watching this campaign, I never know what Sen. Clinton will pull. I am a Texan, voted in the caucus, was the chair of my caucus, etc. My precinct went for Obama 60/40. I got along fine with the Clinton folks and they even voted for me to be the caucus chair. But many of the Clinton Supporters (about 40 of them) seemed so offended or indignant that all of these people had the temerity to vote for Obama. One Clinton supporter told me that Clinton will perform better in the Whitehouse because she "slept with the president." She also gave me crap b/c I am a woman (age 43) and I was betraying women, etc. by my support of Obama.

I didn't want to stir up any crap about that comment, since my caucus was calm. All I did say was:

I want a Democratic president more than a female Democratic nominee. Obama has a better chance of winning the GE because Clinton is polarizing and pisses people off - right or wrong. I was not going to sacrifice a shot at the Whitehouse and roll the dice on Cinton. She was speechless and had no retort. One of her friends suggested that Obama could be her VP - (which as we know is SOOOO patronizing) because "we" need Obama voter support to win. I told her that Obama should be on top of the ticket because of that reason. (Duh!) And Clinton needs to not blow the Dems chance of winning. Then, this is the best part, 4 of the ladies in the Clinton posse changed their votes to Obama.

Anyway, Obama needs to take it.

About the Texas primary. We talked for a while and the whole time, I really worked to refrain from saying anything nasty about Hillary and just kept laying out the case for Obama. 38. No, I think he genuinely beileved it - >

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/02/29/60minutes/main3894659_page3.shtml

In Chillicothe, people told 60 Minutes that both race and gender would both be hidden factors in southern Ohio - that many blue collar workers here won’t vote for a woman and others would never vote for a black. And Sen. Obama has another problem: a malicious campaign against him that surfaced in a number of our interviews.

Schoenholtz told Kroft he is leaning towards Obama, but that there were a couple of issues he was “not too clear” on.

Asked what they were, Schoenholtz said, “Well, I'm hearin' he doesn't even know the National Anthem, you know. He wouldn't use the Holy Bible. He's got his own beliefs, got the Muslim beliefs. Couple issues that bothers me at heart.”

“You know that's not true,” Kroft remarked.

“No. I’m just…this is what I've been told,” he replied.

“One of the things that we found in southern Ohio - not widespread, but something that popped up on our radar screen all the time - people talking about it, this idea that you're a Muslim,” Kroft told Sen. Obama.

“Right. Did you correct them, Steve?” Obama asked.

“I did correct them,” Kroft replied.

“There you go,” Obama said.

Asked where this is coming from, Obama told Kroft, “You know, this has been a systematic e-mail smear campaign that's been goin' on since actually very early in this campaign. It clearly is a deliberate effort by some group or somebody to generate this rumor. I have never been a Muslim, am not a Muslim. These e-mails are obviously not just offensive to me, somebody who's a devout Christian who's been goin' to the same church for the last 20 years, but it's also offensive to Muslims. Because it plays into, obviously, a certain fear-mongering there”

Obama got where he is without the Clintons and he doesn't need them or the STENCH of being affiliated with them. If they pull off stealing the nomination, then let them go down in flames by themselves in the GE. Obama will still have his integrity as well as a career in Illinois and beyond.

squirrels go down a tree very slowly, and while we may never see clowns in space, rest assured that giant squids have been videotaped in the wild. Add to that the fact that the earth has seven distinct continents, and you can see that World War II ended in 1945.

Seriously, no one DARES state the obvious as to why African-Americans are supporting Obama to such an extent, but if anyone even "suggests" that women might want to *consider* Hillary based on her gender, or take stock of the misogynistic slurs that are regularly hurled her way, then, well, they must be saying your sexist if you don't vote for Hillary!

Clearly, a lot of people seem to think (as do I) that racism is very, very bad.

But sexism, well, not so much...

:puke:

I sure wish we could let pot and kettle go 10 rounds and nominate Al Gore. (But of course, God Forbid, that would offend the "movement." Can't have that. 'Course, wait and see how much a President McLame offends them. Then again, maybe not so much, since so many seem like they'd rather have a third term of Bush--or Darth, according to one poster on this thread--than any alternative to the substance-free vessel of all of their hopes and dreams.)

Hell, and I'm still undecided!

(Edited for typo.)

Back pre Iowa when the naked ethnicity/race/religion/whatever baiting started up, I felt strongly I could never vote for tis woman.

Now?

I would proactively vote for whoever is on the other side. I would vote for Dick Cheney in 2008 if Hill is the Dem nom. The reason is, the GOP is the soul-numbing problem that prevents any and all progress atm. Until those dangerous thugs are neutered, I can forgive idiots like Rockefeller and Feinstein.

But Hillary as head of the party, after all this shite, would be turning the Dems into the GOP circa 1994. I just can't have that. I can't sit here and be outraged by the GOP's thuggery and then vote for an even worse thug, and worse yet, from the side that we count on to put an end to this nightmare of booger fling politics.

If Hill is the nom after all this shite, I think we're all just declaring open season. Say whatever, do whatever. By 2016, we might have candidates running ads accusing each other of cannibalism and incest. I'm petty sure Hillary would have run those ads already if she thought they'd help.

97. Hillary's Boomer-style politics loses to Obama's Generation Jones style
This is a well-written post. Hillary's old school polarizing Boomer-style campaigning is dishonest and increasingly aliented. Relevantly, there is a growing consensus in the media, and among experts, that Obama is not a Boomer, nor an Xer, but instead is a member of Generation Jones (born 1954-1965, the heretofore lost generation between the Boomers and Xers).

Just in the last month or so, several top media outlets, including The New York Times, Newsweek Magazine, and NBC, have all made the argument that Obama is specifically part of Generation Jones. I also heard a panel of generations experts recently on a national radio show discussing this specific issue, and four of the five experts concluded that Obama is, in fact, a GenerationJoneser…that his bio and political worldview closely match the GenJones archetype (the one dissenting expert argues that Obama is a Boomer).

Hillary NEVER said she didn't float the idea. Saying "it has taken a life of its own" does not mean she never floated it.

And as for the Muslim comment, she specifically said she hates those attacks, especially because many of them have been made at her.

And she specifically said at the time of the vote that it was NOT a vote for pre-emptive war. Not just when she was running for president, ***at the time of the vote.***

112. "You must really think we're stupid."
Well it sure seems that way to me.

First of all, I still can't believe you all are still dwelling on this chicken shit stuff. Repeating lies over and over really is a strategy worthy of Rove. The arguments for every false allegation you have repeated here have been refuted over and over and over. And anyway, this election is what we are going to do about job loss and the war, not what happened in 2003 when the R.'s were blackmailing us and lying about just wanting the threat of force for diplomatic purposes or about what HC may have thought when she was not the president. Having the opporunity to work for a president does not mean she is responsible for his decisions. To be completely candid, I have really grown to dislike Obama and frankly to hate folks like you. I doubt I'm alone.

O. cannot win against McCain because much of O's base, esp. the white, male yuppies, are also McC's base. It will never happen. HC would have an uphill fight too, but at least she won't look like an idiot on national defense.

So remember all this crap a year from now when McC is replacing Justice Stevens.

119. Obama will still win easily
Unless Clinton manages to completely destroy the Democratic Party by taking her Quixotic quest for the nomination all the way to the convention. If so, you have no one to blame but Hillary herself.

121. White male Southerner here
who will be casting his vote for Obama in November. Obama will win against McCain. Clinton would have a chance against McCain but the result is uncertain at best. Republicans who will stay at home if Obama is the nominee will come out in droves if Hillary is the nominee.

I will stop here because all you need to do is look at the latest polling results about Obama vs. McCain and Clinton vs. McCain matchups. Obama favored against McCain by 5.2%, Clinton favored by 1.7%.

But facts never got in the way of Clinton or her supporters.

135. Hey bj, welcome to DU!
Love your screen name and the sentiments expressed in your post.

Must admit that Hillary is truly a unifier; she will unite GOP voters in a way McCain can only dream of.

I'm a transplant to the south who staunchly defended the Clintons throughout the 90s -- silly, fooled me. Back in 1993, I couldn't believe the level of hatred directed at her. And it has not dissipated with time. In fact, it has resurfaced like a sleeping MONSTER! LOL!

:hi:

151. Thanks!
I've been visiting the site and the forums since before the 2004 election and finally decided to get in the mix. Yes, it is reality that Clinton as the Dem candidate would make all living Republicans, and maybe some dead ones, get up and out the door to the polling stations to vote for McCain. I would say about 75% of my Republican friends (hey, I was born, raised, and live in the South, I can't exclude Republicans altogether) do not have any great dislike for Obama. In fact, my boss, who is extremely politically challenged to put it nicely, has said that he thinks Obama would help our image in the eyes of the rest of the world and that he's inspirational. My boss!

Thanks again for the welcome! Oh, BTW, I was born in South Carolina (your user name suggests you live in one of the Carolinas).

153. Hillary knows squat about national defense, which is what made her endorsement ...
...of McCain that much stupider.

Obama's been on the related Senate Committees for Foreign Relations; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Veterans' Affairs, as compared to Hillary, who served on the single Committee on Armed Services.

Yet again, a tactic straight out of Rove's playbook, taking your own greatest weakness and pretending it belongs to your opposition.

I think Hillary may have fought against Rove for too long, and thinks that the rest of the nation considers these tactics acceptable.

136. Such bullshit
"only tactic he has is to adopt Rove's strategies and beat up on good Dems"

Like a typical Shillbot, you are projecting the actions and behavior of your loser candidate onto Obama. HRC's the one who hasn't been able to win without taking the low road. However, her kitchen sink is exploding on her, bringing with it all that sewage -- HER natural milieu!

139. Obama was dishonest on NAFTA-gate
And there is no proof that Hillary was involved.

The Canadian PM said Hillary Clinton did not speak with Canadian officials at any point.

155. The Canadian PM is a right wing hack. You trust him?
Of *course* neither Hillary, or Obama, did not personally speak with the Canadian officials.

That was never even the freaking accusation.

The PM's Lackey, Brodie, took the equivalent of water cooler chatter, and used said chatter to try and smear the left wing of the US. They didn't care who got smeared, but Hillary was more than happy to pick up and use the right wing smear... on her own party.

Hillary sure as heck got involved in the smear, she even ran TV ads. Denying her involvement is, well, either Hill-arious, or IHBT.
