Shame on the press corps for letting themselves be bought by lobster (on Bush's campaign plane in 2004) and ribs and chicken (at McCain's ranch this month), but doesn't it seem like a really, REALLY smart strategy for any candidate? Think about the undying adulation that Saint John gets from the press by treating them very well. Doesn't that just seem like a SMART strategy in this day and age of the bought and paid for press?
With all of the money thrown around in a campaign, why not treat your reporters to some upscale food? It seems to pay back incredibly handsomely. For all of my problems with McCain, I can't really fault him on this - it makes sense.
The press, which will throw away its soul for some food, are below contempt, of course. But why not pamper their immature little asses, seeing as how IT WORKS??? It's certainly no more unethical than all of the other deals and promises candidates have to make to get elected.
