IMO a very unpretzel-like move is to say that it's certainly NOT the case that McCain has the jam to be president of the USA, in 2008. It's certainly not the case that he has the jam to answer a "3AM emergency call" to the white house - anymore than that goof who sat frozen in midst of reading "My Pet Goat" had the jam to answer a call at more reasonable hours.

I don't know when it bacame habit to call the president of the US "commander in chief", rather than simply "president" - for certainly being "commander in chief" follows from being "president", not vice-versa. I mean, in a democracy.
There's a whole slew of questions to ask about war and peace that aren't circumscribed by the idea of electing a "war president", and should really be answered first. I mean, before rushing headlong into war. I think most Americans know this, and I think that most human beings know this.
