Poll question: Would you trust Florida to properly administer a Mail-In Vote?

No offense to Floridians (I lived there 4.5 years), but they can barely handle a real election/primary, and I suspect a Mail-In would be a disaster, laden with fraud.

2. As an Oregonian who lives with vote by mail, I'll have to say that it
took Oregon over 10 years before they were comfortable with their ability to hold a national primary election totally by mail and that it would be safe and fraud-free.

For Florida to think that they could actually do this in the space of a few months is just kind of nuts. I'm not aware that they've had a lot of success just in handling their absentee ballots by mail.

3. Not after the mailed-in absentee "votes" in 2000 in Fla...
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9507E0D8133BF936A25754C0A9679C8B63

"The flawed votes included ballots without postmarks, ballots postmarked after the election, ballots without witness signatures, ballots mailed from towns and cities within the United States and even ballots from voters who voted twice. All would have been disqualified had the state's election laws been strictly enforced."

To run an effective mail-in primary, you need to have something like Oregon.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/200682_oregonvote23.html

"Oregon's Vote by Mail system is simple and straightforward. Ballots are mailed 14 to 18 days before an election to the registered address of the voter; the voter has two weeks to return the ballot through the mail or by dropping it off at official drop-off sites. The voter must sign the outside of the envelope (the ballot is sealed in a separate envelope inside) and that signature is checked against the signature on file with the elections division."

I say if there is going to be a do-over, just have a damn primary or caucus and do it right. I'd rather have a result that I can trust. I do not trust that Florida will be able to set up a new system given the limited amount of time they have. It seems like it is just asking for a lawsuit if they try to patch together a mail-in system.

7. Torn between two answers: HELL NO! and DEAR GOD, NO!
Sorry, Florida. If it helps to soften the blow, we have dead people here who still cast votes. We know how to screw up an election too.

19. You really need a "hell no" category. Jay Leno said this about FL voting by mail
"They're talking about a re-vote primary where people would mail in their ballots. That's a great idea, combine the reliability of the people in Florida who count the ballots with the efficiency of the Post Office. What could go wrong there?" --Jay Leno

21. Not in a million years, and I live here.
I saw a piece on the local news last night saying that it is not permissible under Florida law to do a vote by mail so it seems this isn't going to happen.

24. I've seen it elsewhere, too. I don't see how its possible unless there is
a loophole that my local news didn't cover, but they seemed pretty adamant that it was not doable. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

23. What the hell is so wrong with little old ladies and ballot boxes?
Put your giant "X" beside one of the names and stuff it in the box. At the end of the day they are counted . . . by hand. It's not like there will be 50 names on the ballot to count.
