JOE BIDEN........where are you ???
I can't take it any longer. I was just going to be silent when Joe Biden resigned after the Iowa caucus. The man who I thought would have been one of THE BEST Presidents this country has ever seen was out of the race and I was going to sit back and patiently see what was going to happen ... but I can't keep quiet. When I frequented this forum months ago, I heard nothing from their supporters but how Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton where uniter's. How they would bring people together in America ... how they were the best for our country. The media pushed them upon us 24/7. The idea that Barack and/or Hillary would unite our country was, I thought, laughable and damaging then, and I believe it more so now. And it will only get worse.

Because of Hillary and Barack's candidacy, I have seen only more divide between men and women, and more divide between blacks and whites, and I fear more is ahead of us ... much more. It is now front page news (and will continue to be from the Republicans), regarding Barack's pastor and the church of which he belongs is racist, and we are now hearing stories that Michelle Obama is a bigot and a racist. Are these stories true? Well, it doesn't matter. The Republicans will be driving these stories home any chance they get. On the Hillary side, half the people in this country don't like her so the Republicans won't have much to do there. The Republicans got what they wanted (with HUGE help from the media)... to run against a woman or an African American. And they're getting Hillary or Barack to run against because the voters in this country are ignorant and selfish. Let's face it, and own up to it; most of the black community will be voting for Barack because he's black, and most women will be voting for Hillary because she's a woman. I'm in a position where I meet a ton of people, and I can tell you that's all I hear. For months now I've been hearing this and I want to scream every time someone opens their mouth and spews this ignorant garbage. And this is why we will be losing to John McCain in November. We'll be losing to the Republicans because the Democrats DON'T KNOW HOW TO PICK A LEADER! It seems in this election we've chosen to be selfish and vote on the "one issue". Whether it's because she's a woman, or because he's black, or gay rights or abortion, etc, etc. This Presidential election is about choosing the best, well-rounded candidate to help mend our broken nation, it's people and ALL the major issues it faces and more importantly electing a leader who is extremely experienced in foreign affairs and policies.

With all the problems we face in the Middle East, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Iran, Turkey, Israel, Russia and China and Mexico, how did we end up with Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama ?? ... very sad.

I blame the media for deliberately not covering and not pointing out the expertise, effectiveness, and intelligence of candidates like Joe Biden or Chris Dodd. It was obvious to me the media had their own agenda, and passed it with flying colors. They should be ashamed of themselves. I blame the majority of the American Democrat voter who didn't do their homework to find out what ALL the candidates stood for. They just came home, turned on CNN and watched 5 minutes of "news", and based their decision on sound bites, magazine covers, and TV ads. The Democrats AND the media, have been absolutely enamored with the fact of electing the first woman or first African American. WE SHOULD BE ELECTING SOMEONE WHO CAN DO THE JOB!!! ...at EVERY level.

More importantly, we can now BUY the Presidency. We need public funding for elections (something Joe Biden has been calling on for years), so that ALL ideas from ALL candidates are heard on an equal playing field.

If America didn't have our boys and girls spilling their blood...if we didn't have radical foreign countries with nuclear weapons...if we didn't have radical foreign countries planning on GETTING nuclear weapons, if we didn't have civil unrests every time you turn around I'd say sure, let's give Barack or Hillary a try. But we blew it. The voters did not think this through from the outset. And now they will get what they deserve...a loss in November. In the upcoming debates who would you want right now standing toe to toe with John McCain on foreign policy??? In my eyes, Joe Biden would have mopped the floor with him.

So what's the point of my rant? My point is: when looking to elect a leader, use your brain...do your homework. Who's BEST QUALIFIED? Who's the best on a spectrum of issues. Who's got solutions? Who's the best for our people and people around the world in these specific times in which we live?

When I chose my candidate, it was because I thought he was the best for everyone. A well rounded experienced person. I thought Obama was not experienced enough, and more importantly he spoke in generalities, and is vague on specifics. Hillary...way too much baggage for me. The Republicans would be relentless with attacks on Hillary, and will fight her tooth and nail on every issue. NOTHING would get done on the hill for our people.

Am I angry?? Damn right I am. Because we BLEW IT....AGAIN. Next time I hope Democrats have sense enough to use their head and not their heart.

OK..there...flame away.

4. Biden is a great guy. I'm still hoping for an Obama / Biden ticket.... and
YES, in the interest of fostering democratic "reunification" after the convention, I'd settle for a Clinton / Biden ticket too. :)

5. no flames here, just agreement - and Biden has been BUSY
Very nicely written expression of what I've been feeling. You choose someone for an important job not based on a few details but on the overall picture. That money and the media, and the cluelessness of the voters, reduced us to the 3 least qualified Dems off the bat makes me furious. I wish we could require people to justify who they vote for and also why they're not voting for the others, so they're not just doing a "word search" for names they recognize.

As for Biden, he's been busy doing really important work for this country, on foreign and domestic policy. Anyone reading this and saying "Joe who?" or thinking we're nuts - listen to Clinton or Obama at the debates and then go listen to Biden giving introductory remarks and grilling someone at a Senate hearing. It's painfully clear who is ready to lead on day one.

7. Thank you for the kind words
I heard a couple weeks ago Joe was on a copter with Kerry and Hagel and they had to make an emergency landing in Afghanistan (?). Then they got up and running and flew to Turkey. Thank God for leaders like Joe, John and Chuck. Over there trying to solve our mess.

8. yep, stop by the Biden group on DU
We commiserate over there and keep an eye on Joe's senate work. It's more educational than watching the kids throw mud.

6. Very well written...
The whole time that Biden was running, he was acting more like a sitting President than he was a candidate.

The system is fucked up when a man like Joe Biden can't even get out of Iowa. I've totally lost my faith in the system and the American people.

11. Lots of Repubs I know (in my family) said they may not agree with Joe but they respect him
They may have voted for him too, solely because of the respect they have for him. I still don't understand why he didn't get farther.

Sigh.

13. exactly - he would have pulled from McCain voters specifically
I remember an interview with some NH voters in a restaurant before the primary and one saying that with Biden out of the race, he'd have to vote for McCain, since he just wanted someone with a lot of experience to face our national problems.

Biden would be the absolute best to take on McCain - on experience, issues, AND the fact that he knows McCain's weaknesses.

ANY of them would have been better candidates, and I agree with your analysis 100 percent.
