Senator Obama JUST said on Anderson360 (CNN) "When I WAS running for President!"
WAS! Freudian slip?

Could he really be thinking about Quitting the race?

Thoughts?
(Please keep it civil, I want serious thoughts, not a flame thread)

57. good god
oh well, people went all stupid over Al Gore's sighs, so I guess nothing is new.

but give it a fucking rest.

he has done like nine zillion talkshows today, including major Garrett on faux trying to play prosecutor - it was truly hilarious - Garrett would read a formal question like "do you now, or have you ever..." and Barack would answer in well-formed sentences, in a conversational tone. Then Garrett would come back like a robot with the next one. Obama started laughing at him.

Don't try to make something out of one word or clumsy sentence. Cut the guy some slack.

I was so shocked when he said that, everything else just tuned out.

Someone up thread say they know the context, and it sounds reasonable, but I need to see the replay to be sure.

When do they usually replay Anderson360? 1:00am or something?

10. Obama is finished. He lied when he said he never sat in a
sermon where wright spoke like this. Oh you can bet yo butt the RNC and others are looking through all the tapes of the sermons and if they find obama there then he is done......Sorry but you cannot know your pastor was preaching hate from the pulpit for 20 years and then when called on it, you disassociate yourself with him.....Obama has stopped walking the "yellow brick road"

...but I'm not asking if he's dropping out, just, are they thinking about in private?

Could they (the Obama Campaign) think this is THAT Bad?

Look, this doesn't bother me either, but he can kiss most of those "cross-over voters" good-bye once the General election starts and the RW Hate Machine gets started up, due to something like this.

His rhetoric about UNITING everybody was a damn lie. Anyone who approves of that racist Wright's teachings are racists themselves. I watched all those out of control rants and it was disgusting and despicable. Just think if that was reversed and it was a white preacher spilling out all the racist garbage he could think of. There would be a shit storm of epic proportions.

40. LOL - Don't worry - the Obama campaign has gone into the race is over I won mode - KO on Countown is
acting like he is doing mop up work - taking down Hillary of course while giving excuses for Obama - but then the Boston Globe is also gone into the same mop up mode - the mode they used for Teddy's run in 1980 (88, 2000, and 2004 they were in reluctant acceptance mode at this point - it is interesting). Hillary haters should read the Globe and see how they try to pretend that Congress can enact laws by itself - without the President - so Hillary had nothing to do with the S-Chip program (Countdown seemed to be proud of itself as it presented the Globe story through the Obama/GOP lens. Orin Hatch was the witness against Hillary -as he claimed GOP authorship (the program was a copy of the Dem legislature in Mass created /passed Massachusetts program then in existence for a few years) Oren Hatch did confess that Bill was against it - but somehow can only spit out that Hillary might have been an advocate!

The media has gone into its time to move on mode.

I think they are afraid of girls.

60. That was my first impression of his comment.
That in his mind, he's already won the Democratic nomination -- AND the GE!

Well, it has been assumed for awhile now that the Dem would win in a cakewalk no matter who was nominated.

You do have to think positive. Katie Couric raked Clinton over the coals early in the primaries for including the words "when I become president" in her campaigning, as if candidates hadn't been doing that forever. Implying that *she* was being too cocky because she'd never imagined losing!

55. Ever run for anything?
One of the first things you have to do is convince yourself that you might lose, and you want to do so gracefully, with a minimal amount of stress on yourself. You run with the idea that something may end your career at any time, fairly or unjustly. Think Spitzer, think Gary Hart, think Gary Condit, etc.

I doubt Obama is thinking of dropping out, but there might be a touch of nerves, a vague question of whether this could be it. From out here, those thoughts seem silly, but remember, the person least able to see how a campaign looks is the campaigner. Obama probably figures there's very little chance this will derail him, but at the same time, he's probably still prepared himself emotionally, just in case. At worst, maybe some of that preparation slipped out. At best, it was a slip of the tongue meaning nothing.

Remember, Reverend Wright said Obama and he had discussed that Obama might have to dump him at some point, so this revelation is something that Obama has feared for a while. That might make him overestimate its impact.

Of course, there's always the odd possibility that there's something else he's worried about--like, maybe, some writing of his that expresses the same thing that Wright has said, that he fears will be discovered soon because of all this scrutiny. I doubt it, but it's possible. It's also possible there is more to be discovered, and Obama is overestimating its impact.

But I still go with a slip of the tongue. Politicians talk all day long, for months on end. They are bound to trip over their words from time to time.

Just random thoughts. If anyone is still reading this, you may yawn now.
