1. I don't think anyone challenged their right to free speech.
We have a right to criticize either. That's the nature of the system.

3. Both have a right to free speech. Unfortunately for Rev. Wright, the political speech
disqualifies his church from tax exempt status.
As for Fred Phelps: Rot in hell!

13. Where is the outrage at Fred Fucking Phelps? EVERYONE hates that ass-pickle.
That's, like, about the only thing people here, people on Free Republic, Republicans, Democrats, most sentient carbon-based life forms on planet Earth agree on: that Fred Phelps is a gimungous shitmuffin.

He's a real uniter, I guess.

14. Are you stupid or something?
Everyone hates Phelps. Comparing Trinity UCC to the Phelps church is moronic in the first place.

You're an idiot.

12. Wait a minute. The right to free speech and having their "faith respected" are two diff. things.
Two completely different things.

I don't have to respect anyone's faith, but everyone's got the right to free speech in this country.

with Phelps strongly too, but honour his ammendment rights.

Shit like this, right here. I won't even bother to tell you why, others have tried only to have it sail over your head.

Gawd, I wish Skinner would nuke this whole forum and about 75% of the people who regularly post here. It's inane twaddle.

23. they both have every right to free speech
tax exemptions are a whole nother thing. I think both at least come close to, if not cross the line of, political activitiy. That rule should also be applied equally. Liberal churches often are as guilty as conservative ones in this regard.

24. right to free speech and deserving respect are not the same
They both have the right to free speech. I respect Dr. Wright's faith. I do not respect the other example.

I also am rather disappointed you would even compare the two here.

You have over a thousand posts, but you haven't been here long enough to know that Fred Phelps is regularly chewed up and spit out?

Don't I remember you from the bathroom scene in Harry Potter? With a stick up your nose?
