An English teacher in the audience complemented him for being able to speak with proper grammar unlike someone we know...
Another teacher asked him about affordable housing...he had an excellent answer.
And the SEIU Janitors are really great people, I worked with them in Tucson during the primaries.
LA Deaniacs are great! I love my fellow patriots so much.
PS. Hilda Solis will you be my Congresswoman? I can't stand David Dreier anymore.
Added: This is my write-up of it, crossposted with that other website erm.
Well it was a beautiful day in Los Angeles, and not just because we had a nice 75 with ocean breezes. Howard Dean descented upon the City of Angels to rally the faithful around a hope. A message that we cannot abort all planning pending the results of the election in November; we must boldly think beyond this season into the future near and far.
Governor Dean was delayed in traffic, it wouldn't be Los Angeles if that didn't happen. However, this delay allowed a crowd of roughly ~100 people to mingle. I got to see people I haven't set eyes on since the worst happened. People I hadn't seen since my trip to Tucson with the Southwest Victory Express. I miss the energy that we had in that fortunate time; even though it's seeping back slowly it just doesn't seem the same. I would kill to rewrite the records in our favor.
First to speak was a gentleman from Latinos for America, can't remember his name. Few jokes, bit on organizing. The Gov arrives during his speech turning the audience's heads.
Hilda Solis, an excellent congresswoman and true patriot, ascends the podium and becomes the host of ceremonies. Introduces State Senate Majority Whip Richard Allarcon, running for mayor of Los Angeles. He gives a speech on the need to restore the hope that once was for equality for all; hope for all. Jokes that Governor Dean has chosen to remain active rather than going away and growing a beard. Hilda Solis follows up with her speech, good speech wish I could remember more of it but it is now 113 AM.
Congresswoman Solis introduces the Governor to a standing applause. His speech generally follows 3 points: 1. We have to back Kerry because he's 100 times better than Bush, we can't have our expectations to high because we already found what we wanted in Howard and Kerry is no Dean. 2. We have to stay involved for 2004 and beyond. 3. It's going to be tough and this may take decades. Opens to questions; asked about the role of media, affordable housing, social justice and an English teacher comments that its nice to have someone that can use proper grammar when speaking.
He finishes and the crowd surges. I back out, I'm not much for crowds even if it is for Dean. Turns out though that my corner is actually right where he's heading for. Passes within 5 feet for me, there's sort of an aura around him, quite the rush. I don't think I really want to actually meet him; I'm a rather shy person and the message is enough to inspire...He leaves about 20 minutes after finishing to catch an LAX flight.
Sorry if I'm incoherent.
