Hillary voters: What attracts you to her? What is so great about Hillary Clinton?
Is it something in the way she speaks? Something in what her life accomplishments have been? Something in her group of supporters?

Something in how her vision for America is unique? Something about having a woman in the most powerful position in the world for the first time?

What exactly and precisely makes Hillary, above anyone else who ran or is currently running, so attractive to you, that she unquestionably gets your vote?

If no response within five minutes, I will list one of my reasons to vote FOR her.

Attacked?
Edited on Tue Apr-01-08 09:08 PM by JayFredMuggs
How about you explain what you mean, that's a "challenge" to state your position... not an "attack".

Either you have solid reasons, or you don't. Don't let my questions to you to explain your position haunt your brain as an "attack".

You either have readily available reasons for making up your mind, and can easily express them, or you feel "attacked"?

I have started a thread for Hillary supporters, for the first time in weeks, to express their solid reasons to support her, and you now feel "attacked"?

Sorry if I asked you to go into that brain of yours and use it. It's much easier not to have to think, isn't it?

But you failed to say where you live, or why you are making up your mind without stating a reason here.

This is the Democratic Underground, you can post here and not be afraid of Republicans making Hillary look like a fool.

Unless, of course, that little lie about herself and her daughter in Bosnia under sniper fire makes you wonder if she can pull it off against the REAL soldier in VietNam who is running against us.

Or is this like a weekly football game to you, you don't need to state a reason, your mind is made up, and you posted to make sure I know that!

46. That's funny! Thanks for the laugh!
I have made so many posts about why I am voting for Hillary.. They don't make a difference on here because my opinions get bashed and Hillary gets called a republican blah blah blah. I have been into politics forever and I am not following a candidate blindly like so many people do. I look at issues and the records. Hillary has the longest and best record compared to Obama and I like her Healthcare ideas. I live in PA..

50. Well, THIS answer is a bit more than the ones before it
where I thought you were picking a fight, expressing a "holier than thou" attitude, and just plain acting like a teenage football rooter.

You've started to state reasons........

Anytime you want to go on, state why Hillary and not Obama can do it for you, fine.......but right now, I can't see how you've ruled out Obama, longest record.....how many bills did Hillary get passed? What makes her the "best" when she's only been in elected office for seven years, the last of which she hasn't exactly been a leading Senator, now, has she?

73. Interesting article
Here's a link to an interesting article discussing the differences and comparing the voting records of Obama and Clinton.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/129976

Excerpt:

Substance Abuse
Debunking a bogus claim about Clinton's legislative record.

Jess Henig
Newsweek Web Exclusive
Updated: 12:42 PM ET Apr 1, 2008
Summary

A misleading e-mail has been making the rounds, alleging that Clinton has fewer legislative accomplishments than Obama, and that they are less substantive. We've had questions about it from a number of readers, and blogs have jumped into the fray. So what's the real story on the Senate careers of the Democratic presidential candidates?

We find that the e-mail is false in almost every particular:

It sets up a face-off between apples and, well, broccoli, comparing only the Clinton-sponsored bills that became law with all bills sponsored or cosponsored by Obama, whether they were signed into law or not.

It includes legislation Obama sponsored in the Illinois state Senate, a very different legislative body.

It tells us that Obama has sponsored more legislation than Clinton, when in fact he has sponsored less.

It implies that Obama has passed more bills into law than Clinton, when the opposite is true.
Contrary to the e-mail's assertions, Clinton's and Obama's contributions are not qualitatively different, and quantitatively, Clinton has the edge.

-------------------------------------

You seem like you want to pick a fight. Many here at DU are tired of this approach. Some of us are committed to voting for the Democratic nominee, and don't wish to attack either candidate or bully those who support one candidate over another.

Perhaps a different approach may garner you more responses. If that's what you really want.

3. I have to say she wasn't my first choice
nor my second. But, that said, I admire both her absolute ability to speak about any issue of the day clearly and with knowledge and her never say die ethic. I am voting for her over Obama on the basis of three things. I believe she is more likely to be proactive on gay issues, I favor her solution over his on the few issues they differ domesticly, and I am not enamoured of the idea of another President who has virtually no experience.

9. OK, what is the difference
Between Hillary and Obama on gay issues? Do you know? Obama has said all gay people nationwide should enjoy the same rights as every one else. Hillary would leave the issue of gay marriage up to the states. Did you know that?

OK now as to which issues do they differ on domestically? Exactly how?

Not enamored of the idea of a President with "virtually no experience".....so you discount all the years that Obama spend as a community organizer with the poor in Chicago as "no experience".. and the years in the State Legislature, in elective office, re-elected every two years, no experience right? Then there are the years he taught Constitutional law, while Hillary was at White House dinners, not relevant, right?

OK I get it.

22. answers
On gay issues it is admittedly the touchy feely stuff. Their promises, and the ability to deliver so far, have been largely the same. But she has shown time and again sensitivity to gays and included them in her life while Obama apparently hasn't. I know that is all gut feeling and not provable fact. Given the extreme likelihood he will be our nominee I hope I am wrong, but looking at his pattern of one after another, after another, anti gay pastor coming out of the woodwork I just don't trust him.

On experience, state senate, especially from one of the most democratic seats in the nation, isn't all that impressive. Sorry, it just isn't. I teach for a living. I would imagine that Obama is great at it, likely better than I, but I don't see teaching, no matter the subject, as great experience for being President. His community activity I would equate with hers when she was with the children's defense fund. I do think being first lady to Bill Clinton would be valueable experience as would being Senator from NY.

As to domestic issues. His health care plan will never, ever, work. If you have no mandates, no one will get insurance who isn't getting it now unless they are sick, and that will drive costs through the roof for those of us with insurance. He has repeatedly stated Social Security is in crisis, when it isn't, and that will lead to calls, which will eventually succeed, to dismantal SS as we know it. That would be a disaster.

7. She is a fighter!
I believe if she became POTUS she actually could make a difference in our future. She gets her way, like it or not, she fights for what she believes in.

She has great experience in the Oval. I could care less if she were only the first lady, that is why anyone who has been involved with an administration while the President is in office and they work for him, they have valuable experience. Obama has none.

I think she would absolutely change the face of the Supreme court with her selections. I am not sure what or who Obama would choose. That is scary to me.

She is a strong woman that millions of women around the world could pattern their lives after. The first Woman President! Has a nice ring to it!

101. Was she fighting the Republicans when she was enabling their policies for the last 8 years?
IWR, Patriot Act, etc. The only time I've ever been given an indication she was "fighting" the Republicans is when she accused them of the "vast right wing conspiracy," and even then, it was just to defend herself and her husband, not out of any sort of advocacy for the people.

11. I'm assuming you're serious
Take as a given that whomever wins has two years of barn cleaning. Chimpy boy has left us in a war with no clear cut goal for victory or exit strategy. He's left us in a separate and distinct war which we were winning and then neglected. He has screwed up our government with a toxic combination of incompetent advisors and bad policy.

1. Hilary brings some experience in the WH and a "consultant" who has done he job. She will hit the ground running and not need the usual learning curve to get started.

2. Bill will make a superb ambassador at large. If she can get Biden to be Sec State, they can combine to really work hard at finding a diplomatic solution and get us out of Iraq.

3. Unless we get a fillibuster proof majority, she will need to work with the GOP to get things done; she has proven she can work wiith them.

4. She will smack down Obama or McCain on any bowling alley on any day. Putin too. God, I feel good saying that!

23. So bowling experience put you over the fence, hey?
What is to stop Obama from appointing Bill (or Hillary) as Ambassador at large, too?

What exact "consultant" experience are you talking about?

So you see working with the GOP as important, and this means what, she cannot continue to do that in the Senate as a Senator working for Obama's much the same agenda? Wouldn't Hillary be a better asset in the US Senate working with the GOP and with Obama as President?

The "usual learning curve" what is that for a former US Senator with a new White House staff of 300? Does it really matter WHO is new to the White House, all 300 staff of each of them are "new"!

<<What is to stop Obama from appointing Bill (or Hillary) as Ambassador at large, too?>>
Nothing is to stop him from asking, but unless there's a unity ticket, I see him having other priorities.

<<So you see working with the GOP as important, and this means what, she cannot continue to do that in the Senate as a Senator working for Obama's much the same agenda? Wouldn't Hillary be a better asset in the US Senate working with the GOP and with Obama as President?>>
I'll say this. If Obama's elected --let's hope she'll pitch in and help him in the Senate.

<<The "usual learning curve" what is that for a former US Senator with a new White House staff of 300? Does it really matter WHO is new to the White House, all 300 staff of each of them are "new"!>>

She will get experienced known quantities right off the bat. There will be a minimum of folks like Dee Dee Myers -- who was in over her head as Press Sec in 93, or picks like Zoe Baird. There won't be a Travelgate this time. They've made mistakes -- they won't repeat them.

there's no reason why Obama couldn't have used Bill as a "roving ambassador," but since the Clintons would surely never stoop to associate with the impudent scoundrel who impugned their total, unassailable Divine Right of Kings, I don't see it happening.

It's a shame, too. We could've seen more of this over the next 8 years.

Do I need to tell them who I slept with last?

What is the problem here?

You seem to have an antagonistic way when it comes to trying to start a discussion.

Just because no one is engaging in a dialogue with you doesn't mean they don't have any rational reasons for their support of HRC. Maybe they just don't want to discuss it with YOU.

So selective, you are.

I thought Democrats were more open and less prejudiced in talking about their beloved candidate......and the reasons they supported her.....seems more like they feel challenged by having to be logical, and react with anger and personal insults.

I don't disclose personal information on a "profile" because it is the internet, not some silly game........you folks have my IP address, which leads directly to my home, if you don't know.

I have worked in government, education, law, and, yes, foreign countries other than Canada and Mexic, speak 3 languages fluently, and know what it is like to take the bar exam and fail, (like Hillary did the first time).

So, when you figure out you have been challenged to come up with rational reasons to support Hillary , and you act like it's a high school basketball game, and you are out to "score"......please remember, your IP address for your last post is recorded and can never be taken back...........either you have rational reasons to support Hillary Clinton, or you are here to harrass, which is against the terms of service, both of the DU, and of your local ISP.....

I suggest a bit more maturity from someone with your "profile".

61. She said something in New Hampshire that was little reported. It
came after she had verged on tears. She said that our country faces "an array of problems, any of which could spin out of control." That struck me as the frankest and most honest thing any candidate had said. Most had been promising to fix everything, and there has been little talk of how vulnerable we are to what lies ahead. I had hoped mightily for Gore, then switched to Edwards, but that one comment by Hillary persuaded me that she was realistic about what lies ahead, and for that reason, she got my vote on Super Tuesday.

95. In a sense, yes. But in this case, I don't think it was a tactic. It
seemed like an unguarded moment. I really do think that Bush is leaving behind so many poison pills that we face "an array of problems" and that any of them can blow up on us. If that's fear, then I'm afraid.

93. For the record ... manic? no, but alive and well
I have only called ONE person here "honey" and that person had posted the same "honey" to me earlier, in another insult.

Now, on to the facts, if you feel I have insulted "everyone who responds", perhaps you are using a new way of defining "insult".....

I challenge, I never insult. There is a difference. If you find my responses "insults", perhaps you never ever had someone challenge you to think logically about the two candidates, one who habitually lies, and one who is a different skin color and background than you.

One went to Wellesley College, Yale Law, married her Yale Law guy and did quite well becoming First Lady of AR and the USA.....did some work in corporate real estate law, (very hush hush now) and volunteer work as First Ladies do.

The other, worked his butt off after graduation from college for 12$K a year, wen to Harvard Law, elected Law Review Pres....etc etc.....all by his OWN work, not his spouse's as in the case of Hillary.

OK now tell us...why Hillary over the hard worker?

And the hate for her is irrational (who knew that leftists would pretty much assume right wing hate for her!).

Her policies on Health Care, Environment, Economics, are all far more progressive than Obama's.

Paul Krugman makes the case. Obama is a moderate centrist at best with regards to his policies.

because this country is in the pits. Economy, war, health care, etc. We need a president that will take charge, get things done, and fight on until it's right. I know Hillary will produce change from day one. I trust her. She has the experience, she has the intelligence, and I believe in her strength. She will be the best Commander in Chief, I trust her judgment (as does Murtha).
