April 2 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said she would offer $7 billion in tax incentives and government investments to encourage companies to create jobs in the U.S.
Clinton, 60, a New York senator, will discuss her plans during a campaign event in Pennsylvania today. Her campaign said the proposal represents ``the largest expansion of tax benefits for research and job growth in a generation.''
Pennsylvania has lost more than 200,000 manufacturing jobs since President George W. Bush took office in 2001 and both Clinton and rival Barack Obama are focusing on the economy as they campaign in the state. Clinton says she will also work to stop companies from shifting jobs to other countries by changing the U.S. tax code.
``Our government should get out of the business of rewarding companies for shipping jobs overseas, and get back into the business of rewarding companies that create good, high- wage jobs -- with good benefits -- right here in America,'' Clinton said in a statement released by her campaign.
