We live in a representative democracy largely controlled by two political parties.
I completely sympathize with how frustrating the nominating process is and how often our need to be heard and our opinions respected is not satisfied. I am going to make a few suggestions on how you might go about having your needs fulfilled given the system in which we live.
1. Join the Democratic party. I was surprised to learn recently how many people thought they were members of the party simply because they had registered to vote as a Democrat. It's not the same thing as being a party member.
2. Attend Executive Committee meetings even if you are unable to function as a precinct captain.
3. Volunteer to be a delegate to state and national conventions. Relatively recently, I was approached to be a delegate to a state convention because they desperately needed the requisite number. Even though I have not been a precinct captain in awhile due to graduate school demands on my time. It really is not hard to become a delegate if you want to participate in the process.
Please do not rely on pollsters, the voting booth or candidate donations to satisfy the need to be heard and respected. Those actions will satisfy one set of needs, but not these. In our system you need to take it further into the party itself.
Good luck!
