Poll question: What if McCain were heading the GOP ticket
I noticed McCain has quite a few admirers on DU--not necessarily supporters, but what if McCain were nominated instead of the chimp would anybody be tempted to vote for him?

31. No, it's how anti-Kerry it's become
Don't kid yourself, no Dem on DU would ever vote for McCain over Kerry. Alot of Nader, Kucinch, Kerry-haters would put it on a DU poll though.

8. I admire McCain but would still support the party
Senator McCain is a fine and honorable man but I would still vote for the Democratic nominee. Senator Kerry is far closer to most of my views that Senator McCain. McCain is an improvement over Bush but not enough for me to vote against the party.

Only against a slimy democrat.
Slimy as in untrustworthy, or something like that. The average Democrat would be my pick over McCain any day, but McCain is definitely superior to Dems like, to use an extreme example, James Traficant.

Not being a registered Republican, I can't vote in their primaries. :p

9. I would applaud any McCain supporter who is here at DU
McCain is a largely reasonable Republican. Kerry will draw those voters.

Welcome to DU, largely reasonable Republicans!

33. I MIGHT and that's a big MIGHT
There are some things that Kerry would have to do to make me vote for McCain, but I HAVE actually voted for McCain before (against Bush in the 2000 primaries - I live in an open primary state) and would have been more happy with McCain than Shrub any ole day.
Thanks for letting us Indies join your blog, btw. :)

But I think most would agree that if McCain was President now we'd be better off than we are with Chimp.

13. I'd vote for Kerry, but I really do admire McCain.
I still disagree with McCain on a number of issues; he's conservative and I'm liberal. However, I admire him because he's a principled and reasonable conservative who won't think twice about bucking his party's leadership when necessary.

14. Another thing: Repukes would never nominate McCain.
He's too reasonable of a person to be nominated by the Repugs. He doesn't hesitate to say things like, "Listen, we cannot afford any more tax cuts! The deficit is climbing through the roof! How much debt do you want to give our children?" A voice of reason like McCain can't be nominated by the party that has been taken over by nutcases.

a lot of his other policy stances don't sit well with me.

I don't know. If I really didn't like the Dem I'd just vote Green.

I would have switched my registration for the Primary, voted McCain overBush, then voted for whatever Dem was running against whatever Repug.

Whatever helps get Bush out.

I like McCain but he wouldn't change my vote.

The Republicans have clearly abused their power, and it's time to take their toys away until they learn their lesson.

24. Of course I'd vote for Kerry over McCain. I'd vote for just about
any Democrat over just about any Republican.

However, I wouldn't be terrified of a McCain victory the way I am of another * election theft, because

(a) a McCain win would surely BE a win and not a theft;

(b) McCain is sane, and I'm assuming his Veep and cabinet would be likewise--guys like Chuck Hagel, Arlen Specter, Tony Zinni, etc.

28. Depends on the foreign policy question
If Kerry continued to pursue a PNAC foreign policy, and McCain was opposed to it, then hypothetically, the best interests of this country (i.e. getting rid of this neocon bullshit) would have to take precedence over party.
