former Gore,Clark, and Gephardt guy to head Kerry's campaign in Michigan
<LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Donnie Fowler, who ran Al Gore's 2000 field campaign and headed retired Gen. Wesley Clark's presidential campaign until quitting last fall, will be named state director of John Kerry's Michigan campaign, two sources said.

Fowler's appointment was confirmed Friday by the sources close to the Kerry campaign who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Fowler is the son of former Democratic National Committee Chairman Donald Fowler. After leaving the Clark campaign, he worked briefly for U.S. Rep. Dick Gephardt's presidential campaign in Iowa before Gephardt dropped out in late January.

Choosing a state director for Michigan may have taken longer than in other battleground states because of concerns over having to pull the various factions of the Michigan Democratic Party together, including Gov. Jennifer Granholm, powerful unions and other interests. >

3. there was a dispute
about how the campaign was going to be run, I believe. Fowler was more focused on keeping the draft clark spirit going, using the internet more as a campaign tool, and less on hiring the inside-the-beltway types. He got things going, and then left in late October or November, if I am remembering correctly.

5. Not part of the draft, but wanted to give us a voice
Good standing, but disgraceful leaving - all that loud bitching was not very professional. They wanted to give him another position in the campaign, but he prefered to slam the door.

6. So, has Fowler actually succeeded at any campaigning?
It sounds like all his efforts so far have failed.

7. well,
I don't think you can put that on him! There's more that goes into winning than the right campaigner. Like the candidate, the opposition, timing (as in Clark's case), money, etc. etc. My impression is he is hard working and super bright. Hope this one ends up being his winner!

8. and one can't put entire blame on him
if a campaign did fail. i'm guessing he probably has experience and was good at the job he did . and from the article it seems the various factions of the democratic party agreed on him.
