Saw new John Kerry commercial on CNN in Richmond tonight.
It's the first time I've seen the new one this week. Go Kerry, go!

1. It's a detail, but I like the way these commercials show his face
very animated, smiling, expressive... Exactly what people tend *not* to think of him being. The ads are good!

3. ...and precisely how he appears if you've ever seen him in person.
I tend to dismiss the idea of media conspiracy, but I find it interesting how many people I've heard from who, when they finally see him in the flesh, are amazed by how warm and personable he is. You'd never know that from the clips they choose to show on TV.

4. Clips on TV...

I get a totally different vibe from him based on those clips than what seems to be the popular one.

I realized, though, that this is because he reminds me a bit of my grandfather. He's built like him, similar facial features, etc. On the outside, my grandfather appeared as stoic and reserved as they come, but speaking to the man for five seconds blew that image away.

5. the way he speaks depends on the situation
when he is giving policy speeches and answering serious questions in interviews he puts on a very serious act.

during campaign rallies it's much more of a "lighter" event. that's when he usually does the whole thing about how he knows something about air craft carriers. and calling on bush to bring it on. and other things which are aimed towards parly loyalists.

when he does one on one with regular voters, he comes across as warm and easy to talk to. if anyone has watched cspan and seen him meet with people after giving a speech they can understand this.

6. He comes across as very statesman like...very presidential.
He also comes across as "warm and fuzzy" when meeting with people during campaign events when I've watched him on C-Span, for instance.
