ANALYSIS: Bush follows the Gipper's playbook

By DAVID WESTPHAL, McClatchy Washington Bureau Chief

WASHINGTON (June 6, 4:52 pm PDT) - Although he may not speak of his presidency in this way, George W. Bush is following a course that seems taken directly from the Ol' Gipper's playbook.

Bush's military build-up, his big tax cuts, his acceptance of record federal deficits and his conservative social agenda are the precise hallmarks that also defined the two-term presidency of Ronald Reagan, who died Saturday at age 93.

Both men came to office favoring a corporate, hands-off management style. Both set regular business hours and hit the sack early. Both fled Washington whenever they could, trading business suits for jeans and cowboy hats on their respective ranches.

"I think President George W. Bush has patterned some of his presidency on the presidency of Ronald Reagan," James Baker, Reagan's former chief of Staff, said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"George W. Bush has governed as if it were the third term of Ronald Reagan's presidency," conservative leader Grover Norquist told the Washington Post.

and the heritage of Ronnie Ray gun.

Now here is the question of the day, WILL the boy who
watned to be king now also wrap himself in the
blowback of the Reagan\ Bush 41 Administrations?

2. Er...who forgot to tell George Bush II that Reagan's presidency ended
in over 30 felony charges? Some History isn't worth repeating.
