Florida sued over Voting List!
A New York group has questioned the accuracy of Florida's voting database, which is being used to come up with a list of potential felons ineligible to vote.

KEY WEST - Florida's $2 million centralized voter database, which is supposed to help weed out felons and people who have died, may have a serious flaw, a New York legal group that is suing the state said Tuesday.

The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law says this new database may not be including the names of thousands of people who had their voting rights restored by the state of Florida during a nearly 40-year period. If the information is true, it would raise serious questions as to the accuracy of a new list of nearly 48,000 registered voters that the state says are potential felons who are ineligible to vote.

1. If we could...
...only get some of the local TV "News" station to tease this as "Will you be able to vote in November; details at eleven" we might get some traction on this one. Heres to hoping

2. I think Kerry should address this.
If the demon cleric Sadr was trying to keep 40,000 American citizens from exercising their constitutional right to vote, the republican party would be doing cartwheels. But when the republican party is doing it, democrats remain quiet. Senator Kerry should take a bold approach to this. It really isn't controversial to say that Americans have the right to vote, is it?

The 2000 election taught us well that you cannot trust the State of Florida. Hopefully this lawsuit opens up the records and we can correct them before 2000 repeats itself.

4. I think it is one of
the most urgent issues facing our country today. I do not believe that the average republican supports the idea of disenfranchisement on the grounds of race, ethnicity, religious grounds, or economic status. But the extreme right certainly does. One other thing that we need to be clear on is that if they will do it to black people in Florida in 2000, they will do it to anyone, anywhere, until the Florida situation has been dealt with. This is not a "state" issue. This is of national significance, and must become a top priority for the democratic leadership. (This may require the grass roots putting pressure on the national leadership ..... and it actually should be a popular issue.)
